The gardens at Linden Lodge School have been specially designed to support the education, development and independence of its visually impaired and multi-disabled pupils. The exterior of the main building remains much as it was when designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1934. The rose garden has been meticulously restored to Gertrude Jekyll’s original design. A Woodland Walk enables children to feel the freedom of the wilderness within a setting which has been carefully crafted to maximise safety and accessibility. The Sensory Garden is a highly appealing environment which aids children’s development through a variety of interactive features and sculptural elements. The Roehampton Club gardens were laid out when the club was established in 1901. They remain at the heart of the estate and retain many of the original features, despite changes within the estate over the years. An appealing vista from the rear of the clubhouse leads through a sunken garden with ornamental pond to a yew hedge walk, and on to an attractive pavilion. There is a rockery and herbaceous walk beyond a wrought iron gateway, complete with seating bays featuring fig, roses and wisteria climbers. An adjoining croquet lawn is bordered by interesting shrubs and trees.

The grounds of the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability – located on a stunning elevated West Hill position in Putney since 1863 – afford views over north west and south west London. Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown and esteemed landscape gardener Humphry Repton both had a hand in designing the estate, adding to the garden’s historical importance and interest. Brown designed an open landscape of grass and trees, a lake and a home farm and his designs are still in evidence today. The grounds include an awardwinning cloister garden and several specialist patient sensory gardens.
