Deepawali shopping means a lot of plastic bags. Let’s say ‘No’ to plastic shopping bags and use cloth bags when going out for shopping. Pretty and colourful designs of Rangolis make our houses look beautiful, but synthetic colours are dangerous for the environment and unhealthy when inhaled and cause serious health issues.

Namaste Doston! Diwali is a festival of lights! It is the celebration of good over evil, marking the return of Lord Ram after he defeated Ravana. Diwali or Deepawali essentially means the Awareness of the Inner Light. In a way, it is the celebration of the awakening and awareness of the Inner Light which has the power to outshine the darkness. During the Deepawali celebration, one thing that gets everyone excited about is Diwali shopping! However,

Let’s opt for rangolis that can be made using flowers or use eco-friendly colours that do not cause harm to our surroundings. Organic rangoli colours are available in the markets easily. You can use home ingredients in Rangoli for different colors, like Haldi for yellow, coffee powder for brown, and flour for white. To enhance the look, replace plastic flowers with natural ones. Upcycle your home decorations with existing colorful dupattas and sarees instead of plastic ribbons.

Opt for biodegradable plates and glasses which are friendly for the environment and at the same time easy to dispose off. Banana leaf plates, Bamboo plates are a good pick for those festive feasts. After Diwali, manage all the waste things wisely. Separate the bio-degradable and nonbiodegradable waste to dispose it properly. Here’s wishing you all

Shubh Deepawali!

Movember & No Shave November: Special

Let’s change the face of men’s health By| Rishabh Shukla

N

ovember is here and men have finally got the chance to let their moustaches grow wild and free and proudly flaunt their bearded look. Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com.

The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.” By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as “Mo Bros”) to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Using the moustache as the driving symbol of the

movement, Movember focuses on the three key areas of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health & suicide prevention. Men who participate in Movember are encouraged to donate the money they would have spent on razors, shaving utensils and barber shops. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men. No-Shave November is a similar but unrelated organization. Like Movember, No-Shave November raises awareness and money for men’s health initiatives. However, while Movember supports a few different causes, No-Shave November focuses solely on cancer awareness and cancer prevention because Matthew Hill, the husband and father of the family that founded NoShave November, died from colon cancer in 2007. Remember, people who participate in No-Shave November don’t shave anything, letting any and all facial hair (and sometimes body hair) grow out. However, you’re welcome to trim and groom if you have a strict dress code at work, the rules say. No-Shave November is a bit more laissez-faire about the rules than Movember, which wants people to start the month completely cleanshaven and grow only a mustache. Get Involved in Movember or

Simple Act of Kindness brings immense joy and peace….

Point of View

By| Meghana Dhakan

K

indness simply means to be caring, friendly and being approachable to the person who requires the actual help. As per my opinion, kindness is service from heart which means to help someone going beyond the formalities, rules and regulations. Genuine kindness means to be polite to everyone regardless of being any bias or impartiality. Kindness is the value of not just showing the care, love and affection towards people however it is an act of actual help.

The painless and modest ways to be kind are just to show the gratitude by heart, listen to someone with interest, give some genuine compliments to someone, help by heart to the one who is in need, be open minded and accept others feelings or opinions, say thank you and smile. Small acts of gentleness can also mean a lot to people and which gives the immense joy, happiness and peace.

share one or two from those which makes me inspire to be kind. One of the innocent acts of being kind. One old man has started some daily routine which includes feeding cow and then only eat lunch. He walks out daily, one-two kilometre away just in search of cow and feed them. After reaching there he buys food for every cow seating over there and feeds by his own hand which bounces him with enormous joy.

There is lots of incidents we come across for the act of kindness but I would like to

And that RJ helped her and family without any expectations. And I really appreciate his act of kindness without any expectation and demands, as no celebrity would come out to help the common man.

mean if he/she will help me then only I will help them. One should be openly accept being kind doesn’t have any terms and conditions.

Kindness is unconditional love and care without any expectation of getting any rewards. There is one well known Gujarati proverb which explains mothers love is the most unconditional love in this world, there are no expectations and no demands. No any word can explain kindness better than mother’s unconditional love Everyone has question why without any expectation. would I be kind when people are not even caring for me! “No act of kindness, no Right? Tales behind the festival of lights!

Point of View

O

ne of the most popular Hindu festivals, Diwali is celebrated in the month of Kartika (between mid October and mid November). It gets its name from the Sanskrit word Deepawali which means rows of lights. Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil. Among the Hindus, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity is worshipped on this day. The day of Diwali is also celebrated with fervor by the Sikhs and the Jains. There are various legends

behind the celebration of Diwali. Let’s explore some of these: 

The most popular legend is that from the Hindu epic, Ramayana. According to it, Diwali marks the day Rama, Sita and Lakshmana return to Ayodhya after 14 years in exile. Exiled by his own father King Dasharatha, Rama, his wife Sita and his brother, Laxmana, face various hardships as they travel through the forests.

lose all their possessions in a deceitful game of dice against the cunning Kauravas. 

Victorious, they return to Ayodhya. To welcome them, the people of Ayodhya clean their houses and place oil lamps to light their path. The ritual of lighting oil lamps is an integral part of Diwali celebrations to this day. Amongst the many other legends associated with Diwali is yet another story of exile. Only this time, it is about the Pandava brothers and can be found in the Hindu epic of Mahabharata. The five Pandava brothers

guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib and 52 other prisoners were released from captivity. 

Historic accounts note that emperor Jahangir released Guru Hargobind Sahib whom he had imprisoned for years. The Guru however declared that he would not leave unless the 52 other princes imprisoned with him would be released too. The emperor said that only those who could hold on to the Guru’s cloak would be allowed to leave prison.

Guru Hargobind Sahib had a cloak made with 52 pieces of strings so that each prince was able to walk out of prison along with the Guru.

The Guru’s liberation was celebrated with lighting of lamps, a tradition that continues to this day.

The first prime minister of independent India From the Desk

J

awaharlal Nehru (born November 14,1889, Allahabad, India—died May 27, 1964, New Delhi), first prime minister of independent India (1947–64), who established parliamentary government and became noted for his neutralist (nonaligned) policies in foreign affairs. He was also one of the principal leaders of India’s independence movement in the 1930s and ’40s. Nehru was born to a family of Kashmiri Brahmans, who had migrated to Delhi early in the 18th century. He was a son of Motilal Nehru, a renowned lawyer and leader of the Indian independence movement. Nehru’s academic career was in no way outstanding. From Harrow he went to Trinity College, Cambridge, where he spent three years earning an honours degree in natural

science. On leaving Cambridge he qualified as a barrister after two years at the Inner Temple, London, where in his own words he passed his examinations “with neither glory nor ignominy.” The seven years Nehru spent in England left him in a hazy half-world, at home neither in England nor in India. Some years later he wrote, “I have become a queer mixture of East and West, out of place everywhere, at home nowhere.” He went back to India to discover India. While consciously assertive in his Indianness, Nehru never exuded the Hindu aura and atmosphere clinging to Gandhi’s personality. Because of his modern political and economic outlook, he was able to attract the younger intelligentsia of India to Gandhi’s movement of nonviolent resistance against

the British and later to rally them around him after independence had been gained. Nehru’s Western upbringing and his visits to Europe before independence had acclimatized him to Western ways of thinking. Throughout his 17 years in the prime minister’s office, he held up democratic socialism as the guiding star, emphasizing that India needed to achieve both democracy and socialism. With the help of the overwhelming majority that the Congress Party maintained in the parliament during his term of office, he advanced toward that goal. The four pillars of his domestic policies were democracy, socialism, unity, and secularism. He succeeded to a large extent in maintaining the edifice supported by those four pillars during his lifetime. Powered by: BANDHU

ndian cuisine is characterised by its various spices, heavily used in multiple ways in its traditional recipes. Indian spices include a variety of spices grown across the Indian subcontinent (a subregion of South Asia). With different climates in different parts of the country, India produces a variety of spices, many of which are native to the subcontinent. Others were imported from similar climates and have since been cultivated locally for centuries. Pepper, turmeric, cardamom, and cumin are some example of Indian spices.

Generations have revered the numerous benefits of Indian spices. They are antioxidant rich and offer high levels of vitamins B & C as well as minerals and iron. From turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties, to ginger’s digestive properties, and red chili and garlic’s link to inhibiting cancer, the list of benefits are increasing every day. Spices can be broadly divided into 2 types: Whole spices– They are the spices what are found in whole form such as seeds, buds, flowers, bark etc. They add aroma to the dish. A reassuring dental surgeon with kind words is always helpful to lessen the fear in the patient’s mind. Some soothing instrumental music in the background and a bright colourful interior always helps in diverting the patients mind away from scary stressful thoughts. An Artistic marvel

he intricately carved honey-coloured Shree Somnath temple located in Veraval in Saurashtra on the western coast of Gujarat, India is believed to be the first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva.

Somnath means “Lord of the Soma”, an epithet of Lord Shiva. The Somnath temple is known as ‘The Shrine Eternal’. It is an important Hindu pilgrimage and tourist spot of India and especially of Gujarat. Reconstructed several times in the past after repeated destruction by

several Muslim invaders and rulers, the present mandir was reconstructed in the Chaulukya style of Hindu temple architecture and completed in May 1951. A description of the temple by Al-Biruni, an Arab traveller, was so glowing that it prompted a visit in 1024 by a Powered by: BANDHU

Ancient Indian Wonders most unwelcome tourist – the looter Mahmud of Ghazni from Afghanistan. At that time, the temple was so wealthy that it had 300 musicians, 500 dancing girls and even 300 barbers. Mahmud of Ghazni took the town and temple after a twoday battle in which it’s said 70,000 defenders died. Having stripped the temple of its fabulous wealth, Mahmud destroyed it. So began a pattern of destruction and rebuilding that continued forcenturies. The temple was again razed in 1297, 1394 and finally in 1706 by Aurangzeb, the Mughal ruler. After that, the temple wasn’t rebuilt until 1950. The reconstruction was started under the orders of the first Home Minister of India Vallabhbhai Patel and completed after his death. The present temple is built in the Chaulukya style of temple architecture or “Kailash

Mahameru Prasad” style and

reflects the skill of the Sompura Salats, one of Gujarat’s master masons. The temple’s sikhara, or main spire, is 15 metres in height, and it has an 8.2-metre-tall flag pole at the top.

The temple is situated at such a place that there is no land in a straight line between Somnath seashore until Antarctica, such an inscription in Sanskrit is found on the Banastambha (arrow pillar) erected on the seaprotection wall. The Banastambha mentions that it stands at a point on the Indian landmass, the first point on land in the north to the South Pole at that particular longitude. This remains true, because the whole temple complex (that contains the pillar) has a latitude and longitude of 20.8880° N and 70.4012° E respectively. The only land mass nearest this longitude is the set of Kerguelen Islands, which are uninhabited and form part of the French Southern and Antarctic Islands (spanning 68°382 E–70°332 E). Fashion Forecasting: Predicting Future!

By|Swapnil Shukla Fashion forecasting focuses on upcoming trends. A fashion forecaster predicts the colors, fabrics, textures, materials, prints, graphics, beauty/grooming, accessories, footwear, street style, and other styles that will be presented on the runway and in the stores for the upcoming seasons. process includes the basic steps of understanding the vision of the business and profile of target customers, collecting information about available merchandise, preparing information, determining trends, and choosing merchandise appropriate for the company and target customer. Color and style are two of the important objects to forecast for most buyers and merchandisers.

The classical way for fashion brands and agencies to forecast trends is by analyzing runway shows, trade shows, newspapers & magazines’ information, and market research In the past, these sources were the only ones available to fashion forecasters and brands and retailers would use this information to plan their future collections.
