WELCOME TO THE OBA PRACTICE SECTIONS GUIDE

One of the exclusive benefits of membership in the Ontario Bar Association is the OBA’s Practice Sections. This important directory captures all 37 practice sections of the OBA in one concise booklet. It covers everything from Aboriginal Law to Taxation, Trusts and Estates and Workers‘ Compensation. Whether you are a sole practitioner, member of a small firm, in general practice or highly specialized in the field of mergers and acquisitions, criminal justice, entertainment law and communications, the OBA Practice Sections give true value that only membership in the OBA can provide.

The OBA offers a separate Young Lawyers’ Division for new lawyers just entering the profession. Through the YLD, members can meet both new and experienced lawyers, as well as judges. These networking opportunities are not limited to the young, as the OBA Practice Sections provide the same benefits to veteran professionals who may wish to expand the scope of their practice or seek advice outside their given specialty. Most importantly, the OBA Practice Sections provide “one-stop” invaluable information and opportunities for professional growth you won’t find anywhere else. Through the various Practice Sections, members have access to educational programs, newsletters, and regular social events all conducted in a spirit of fun and collegial interaction.

All members of the OBA are actively encouraged to join practice sections in areas of your interest and professional activity. I would encourage every OBA member to take the time to read this important guide to the OBA Practice Sections. You may be surprised by who you know, or more importantly you may find yourself motivated to participate directly in this exciting part of membership in the Ontario Bar Association.

Cathy Robinson OBA Director of Sections
