ZFM Mgcawu District Community Outreach Soccer Tournament

The SouthAfrican Police Service in the ZFM District held a soccer tournament where the SAPS team, Correctional Services, Army (8Sai) and the local team (Upington FC) participated on Friday, 10 March 2023.
This is a build-up programme towards the provincial event aimed at enhancing the relationship between the police, the community, NGOs and other government departments in the fight against crime.

The program kicked off with school visits atAJ Ferreira High School in the Rosedale area and continued to Paballelo High School where the learners were addressed by theActing Vispol Head of ZF Mgcawu District, Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Bacela on general safety, Bullying and dropouts as a serious concern in schools lately
Other departments including Correctional Services, Social Development, GCIS, Dept of Education, NGOs and CPF were part of the programme and the Area Commissioner of Department Correctional Services Mr Du Preez took time to talk to learners about life in prison and how they should avoid becoming one of the statistics. Learners were also provided with dignitary bags to promote self care and dignity especially among girls.
After the school visits, the members proceeded to Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs stadium where the soccer tournament commenced. Stalls were erected at the stadium for services from different departments during the period of the tournament.The cup winner of the day was Upington FC in first place, SAPS in second place and 8SAI in third place.
