Refugio Retiree Leaves Legacy

Juan (JJ) Garza’s 10 years at the Refugio Transload Terminal in Texas left a lasting impression on his team and their customers.

“He’s an amazing team member, but JJ’s an even better person,” said Hilda Morin, terminal manager. “When we’re shorthanded, he always pitches in. He’ll help anyone without hesitation.”

Garza joined the team in 2015 and quickly established himself as a dependable jack-of-all-trades. He became more than an equipment operator. When Refugio needed it, he was a switchman, mechanic, transload operator, and even regularly cleaned up the facility. He also recently retired as a county constable. He and his wife plan to travel together following his retirement on June 30. The team will host a farewell luncheon for Garza and present him with travel accessories to help with their adventures. He’s also looking forward to spending more time with his grandson.

“The thing we’ll miss most is just him being here,” Morin said. “He helps in everything. We’re very excited for him but sad to see him leave.”
