COMMUNITY VOLUNTEEREVENTS

We're dedicated to making tree planting an accessible experience for all communities that want to make a positive impact for the environment close to home. That's why every spring & fall, One Tree Planted organizes volunteer events to plant trees around the world. 2021 saw 10,000+ volunteers get their hands in the dirt while following all local health and safety guidelines.

More people than ever live in urban areas, and without trees, our cities will become less livable due to a phenomenon known as the Urban Heat Island Effect. Cities can be up to 20°F hotter than their surrounding environments. For 2022, we already have projects lined up in 15 cities that would most benefit from urban forestry, as measured by their Tree Equity Score.

URBANFORESTRY AROUNDTHEWORLDIN2022

Our urban forestry program continues to grow across nearly all regions. We already have 25+ projects lined up for 2022 — and will continue to expand our impact in urban areas. We seek to remain flexible to new opportunities, while also strategically targeting projects that address environmental justice and help communities achieve tree equity.

In 2021, we significantly grew our monitoring program. From rural farming communities in Africa and remote sections of the Amazon to burn scars in California, our planting partners around the globe have varying degrees of access to technology — which affects their ability to scale up, communicate effectively and provide quality monitoring.

We're working to bridge this gap by providing key partners with reliable technology — including cell phones, computers, satellite internet, drones, video equipment and software — as well as the necessary training and support to collect and analyze data.

This helps ensure that they can record quality monitoring data and provide accurate updates on the progress of their planting programs!

FROMDONATIONS TOTREESINTHEGROUND

We want as much of our supporters' donations to go to planting trees as possible. Every year, we work to maximize efficiency & shrink the percentage of revenue going towards salaries, office space, professional fees, platforms, etc.

Despite our growth, our operating cost was below our target of 20% of annual costs!

*other includes office costs, professional fees, technology expenses

Reforestation at any scale requires a secure supply of healthy, native seedlings — preferably grown in a nursery at or near the planting site to reduce transportation costs and increase acclimation to the local climate.

Strategic investment in nursery production allows for a diversity of trees to be grown and planted at scale while also creating jobs for local communities.

On the west coast, we've built partnerships with large nurseries to help address seedling shortages. On the east coast, we're exploring options to grow our planting capacity throughout New England and beyond!
