Living Room

The part of the house most wont to be shared with family and visitors has its earliest reference in French salons. The history of salon furniture presents dozens of typologies, uses and functions, but the most historically remote piece of

furniture we can name is perhaps the wooden or stone pew of churches. Comfort as we know it today was born in

the second half of the 18th century, but it was during the reign of Louis XV that significant advances were made and comfort took priority over rigid etiquette. This period produced the canapé and the divan, predecessors of the sofa

or couch.

In time the conception of the salon as a sharing place gave rise to new furniture pieces of a capricious nature, such as the confidente, the marquise, the caseuse, the turquoise, or the sultaine.

What follows is a selection of modern furniture pieces inspired by a variety of sources.

El recinto de casa para compartir con propios y extraños tiene su más antigua referencia en los salones de reunión

franceses. A lo largo de la historia del mueble para el salón se pueden enumerar decenas de tipologías, usos y

funciones del mueble pero quizás el mobiliario más remoto que recordemos sea el banco de madera o piedra empleado en iglesias. Así, el confort –tal y como lo consideramos hoy en día– nace en la segunda mitad del siglo

XVIII, pero fue bajo el reinado de Luis XV, cuando se realizaron avances significativos, donde ha primado la

comodidad frente a la rigidez y la etiqueta. Como ejemplo significativo se puede mencionar al canapé o diván, antecesor del sofá.

Años después, la concepción del salón como lugar para compartir, trae consigo la creación de nuevos y caprichosos muebles, como confidente, marquesa, caseuse, voyeuse, turquoise o sultaine. A continuación se muestra una selección de muebles modernos de variada inspiración.

Bedroom

The bedroom is the most intimate part of the house. Meant for rest and repose, the bed originated from cults to the dead. In time its use narrowed down, adapting to the needs of the living person or couple. The modern conception of the bedroom was born in the decades immediately following the 18th century, when, like other areas of the domestic space, it was reduced in size.

A classical bedroom, if it is to be called that, contains a bed that serves as axis and two night tables flanking it. Other elements are a large closet, a console table with a mirror, a chiffonier, and of course a dressing table for vanity.

El lecho de descanso es el recinto de mayor intimidad de la casa. La cama destinada al reposo, nace también

para rendir culto a los muertos. Con el paso del tiempo, su uso se ha restringido y hoy se adapta a las necesidades de la persona o pareja. La concepción moderna del dormitorio se crea en los decenios posteriores al siglo XVIII, cuando el recinto se reduce, al igual que otras habitaciones del espacio doméstico.

Todo dormitorio que se aprecie contendrá una cama como eje de la habitación, flanqueada por dos mesillas de

noche. Un gran armario también formará parte de este espacio, al igual una consola con espejo a juego, un chiffonier y, por supuesto, un coqueto tocador.
