A unique approach… On November 11 Edney & Edney are hosting a special KIRK & KIRK showcase at their independent eyewear boutique. Read on to find out more about it… The independent optical sector has changed dramatically over recent decades. With huge corporations dominating the industry since the 1980s, and more recently a global pandemic and a cost-of-living crisis, our small corner of the industry has had to adapt to not only survive – but thrive by presenting the consumer with an alternative and refreshed approach to eyecare. Gone are the days of your local beige optometric practice trying to compete with the big brands by offering the cheapest deal on the high street – the best independent practices celebrate their differences to large multiples. At Edney & Edney, we pride ourselves on a more client-centred approach by offering unparalleled service and a formidable range of stunning eyewear showcasing undeniable quality from independent eyewear producers. The evolution of our sector has been necessary and important, but one tradition from the independent optical practice of the past endures
– the trunk show. Trunk shows are a short event lasting one or two days and are centred on one particular eyewear brand. The sales rep will bring their entire frame collection, which is usually for the buyer’s eyes only, and presents it to clients providing a unique opportunity to see all frames in every colour/style/size combination. This not only allows the client to explore the collection in maximum detail and make a confident decision on a frame purchase, but it also provides the practice buyer valuable insight into what clients want. On the 11th of November 2023 we are delighted to be hosting our own trunk show showcasing firm
Edney & Edney favourite, KIRK & KIRK. At its core, the most fundamental part of a KIRK & KIRK frame is unique – the material it is made from. Acrylic is seldom used in 21st century eyewear, but the Brightondesigned, French-produced frames combine an unusual frame material from days gone by with contemporary and forwardthinking design. Three properties that set acrylic apart from the more commonly used cellulose acetate include:

Rigidity – Acrylic is strong enough to support itself without the need for a metal reinforcement running through its core, allowing a more refined finish. 3. Density – Acrylic is far lighter weight than acetate, so thicker, more detailed frames can be achieved without compromising comfort. Edney & Edney have been a
