YES you guessed it; champagne and coconut water were seemingly on tap in, out and around the incredible shows and presentations. #OMY team member Anjola Adelaja talks LFW virginity, rubber coated men and losing her Mark Fast show ticket. OMY where to begin… I started out my first ever London Fashion Week experience with the expectant, albeit terrible British weather; although thankfully my spirits were not dampened, as the excitement made me oblivious to the cold, wet and familiar rain. Here’s to being a Londoner. On arrival, Somerset House was a true host to the visual spectacle of FASHION – there was nowhere I could look without seeing fledgling fashionistas, stylish celebrities and models sashaying effervescently between catwalks.

Outside the vast stone encampment was a rubber masked figure; and what initially appeared to be a lifeless inflatable doll, actually began to move and pose for onlookers and press. #WhatHasBeSeenCannotBeUnseen Moving quickly along to first show I attended for #OMY, Bora Aksu; my anticipation was virtually tangible. I spotted a few familiar faces and then settled into my seat.

As the show began, I was hypnotized by the soothing voice of Turkish singer Belkis Ozener-Icin Icin Yaniyo. Yaniyo’s dulcet tones established a comforting ambience and then the models began [cat] walking…

Bora Aksu AW14 Words Anjola Adelaja Bora Aksu’s collection was inspired by the character Rhoda, in the 1956 film Bad Seed. The visual imprint of these influences were strongly exhibited through the expert hair, make-up & styling. A key look from the show was the prim & proper schoolgirl; standout silhouettes included a full-length skirt, girly Peter Pan lace collars, gathers and peplums. After leading with the uniform colours of black, white and navy, Aksu’s catwalk welcomed accents of silver; closely followed by pale pink, crisp white and vibrant knee length marigold dresses. The show rounded off with rich ox blood and cherry red garments. An assortment of fabrics and textures were incorporated in the collection - corduroy, silk, organza, leather and cotton lace - in keeping with the schoolgirl look; the main accessories were folk weave ankle socks, paired with court heels. The overall effect was stunning and a real triumph for Bora Aksu; prim & proper perfection if you ask me.

Mark Fast presentation was at the sumptuously decadent Aldwych House – not exactly the ideal place to lose my show ticket! Thankfully #OMY’s Editor-in-Chief, Layla & I arrived early enough to get recognized by the show’s organizers. Wiping the panic stricken look from my face, we entered into a white expanse of a room, laced with neon lights and the ever-present sense of “new”.
Mark Fast described his collection as, “A dichotomy of poverty and glamour and how these two meet together and form something beautiful.” Precise words indeed; the catwalk began with vibrant ocean blues, flowing into sunset oranges. Pigments of pink were intertwined into the weaving and followed up by chunky knits; the weaves were accessorized with belts and oversized scarves. Mark Fast continues to reinvent the humble knit with an urban edgy flare; his Autumn/Winter 2014 collection boasts a variety of textures and patterns that reflect his ingenuity. The models were styled to sporty perfection and accessorized with bronze metallic creepers – coupled with the obligatory white sole and black socks. Exceedingly expressive Mr Fast.

So that was London Fashion Week, all glitz, glam and glory; but what better way is there to round off a perfect week of fashion, frolicking and fashionistas, than with London Fashion Weekend. Cue shopaholics descending on Somerset House in their droves, to grab the latest apparel, handbags, shoes, sunglasses and M端ller yoghurts?
Armed with our press passes, the #OMY team was ready for all things fashionable, fun and free! London Fashion Weekend was all about sampling the delights of high fashion shopping, with the high-street price tag; so of course we snapped a few #OMYSalute’s and captured the overwhelming satisfaction of all that apparel…under one roof…#OMY.
