he Clarkson Service League’s annual Santa's Preview holiday boutique, featuring one-of-a-kind unique holiday and gift items, kicked off the two-day “Celebrate the Holidays” event, which included shopping, a holiday brunch and style show in November at The Nebraska Medical Center. The Clarkson Service League donates the proceeds from the event, more than $200,000 a year, to special projects for The Nebraska Medical Center. The chair for this year’s Santa’s Preview was Lisa Sekundiak; the brunch chairman was Casey Fehringer. The 2010 President of the Clarkson Service League is Lori Bucholz. Emeritus members of the Clarkson Service League were the honorary chairs for the event this year, with each of these members contributing over 25 years of service to the League and The Nebraska Medical Center. Shoppers were able to purchase great holiday tabletop items, such as Santa cookie jars, specialty foods and tree decorations. Also included were fun items for children, jewelry and handbags. The brunch put everyone in a festive mood to kickoff the holidays and featured a style show with Clarkson Service League members modeling new and exciting merchandise from the Clarkson Gift Shop. Proceeds from this event will help renovate the Clarkson College library and fund Clarkson College scholarships, as well as the James T. Canedy endowed scholarship.

ilent and live auction items raised nearly $150,000 at the fifth annual Jewels of Autumn benefit at Alegent Health’s Lakeside Hospital. The funds raised will go to enhanced patient imaging and diagnostics at the hospital. Cindy Alloway, the chief operating officer for Lakeside Hospital, welcomed everyone to the event and then turned over the microphone to Dr. Kyle Krehbiel from Radiology Consultants of the Midwest to discuss what advanced technology has done to help in the prevention and treatment of cancer in the region. Event chair JoAnne Jarvis, co-chair Nicole Panneton and emcee Courtney Vacanti helped auction off Husker football tickets, a fishing trip, a hot-air balloon ride, private chef-prepared dinner, Ritz Carlton vacation and a children’s fire station birthday party from the Omaha Fire Department. Specialty baskets auctioned off that evening were donated by employees of Lakeside Hospital.
