For the past five years, Teresa Prince Conway ‘04 has come back to Marian to speak to the Journalism I classes about photography. Teresa is a freelance photographer and assistant at Lane Photography. Mary Huerter ’04, M.D., a resident physician in internal medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has been selected as the 2015 American College of Physicians (ACP) associate health policy intern. She will head to Capitol Hill next spring to work with the ACP for one month to learn about the legislative process, health policy and advocacy in organized medicine. Dr. Huerter also will provide assistance with researching and analyzing current issues in health and medical e d u c a t i o n p o l i c y, enhancing ongoing advocacy initiatives and the development of advocacy materials. Gambrel graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in Engineering Physics. She was a Goldwater Scholar and recipient of a National Science Foundation scholarship for graduate school. She is currently a Physics PhD candidate at Princeton. Gambrel publishes a blog at http://spiderontheice.wordpress.com. Julia Smith ’07 was awarded a 2015 Knight-Mozilla Fellowship, which means that next year she will be working as a data journalist and news application developer for the Center for Investigative Reporting in Emeryville, Calif.
Margaret Powers ’10 graduated in December 2014 from Iowa State University with a degree in accounting and a minor in sustainability. She has accepted a position in assurance on the financial services line in Minneapolis, Minn., where she will be working for Ernst and Young beginning fall 2015. Vicky McIntyre ’10 is a 6’7” center and senior at Oral Roberts and had a big week in February. She broke Angela Gilbert’s (Ill.Chicago) 23-rebound record (one that had held for 22 years), grabbing 27 rebounds while adding 22 points. McIntyre’s rebound performance currently tops the nation this season, and she is first in the country to reach 4.86 blocks per game. Rose Gensichen ’14 is one of 4 University of Nebraska at Omaha students who have received the UNO Alumni Association Scholarship this year. Gensichen also won t h e w o m e n ’s event in the 2014 Omaha Corporate Cup, crossing the finish line in 39:54. She placed 27th overall.
Maureen McMahon ’00 married Jason Rezac at St. John’s Church at Creighton University on March 14, 2014. Maureen’s maid of honor was Julie D’Agosto ’00. Her bridesmaids were Jen Agnew ’00, Erin Carlin ’00, Erin Carmody ’00, Lauren Orsi ’00 and Pam Sampson ’00.
Elizabeth Placek ’00 married David Blumin on May 31, 2014 at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. Bridesmaids included Jill Peitzmeier McNamara ’00 and Kathleen DeRoos O’Kane ’00. Elizabeth graduated from The Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri and is currently working as a cardiovascular and radiology nurse at Providence Little Company of Mary in Torrance, Calif. David graduated from San Diego State University. David is an accountant and owns an audio/visual production company. The couple currently lives in Redondo Beach, Calif.
Alexa Horn ’14 started a graphic design, editing, and copywriting business, Flisp. Carly Steinauer ’14 was recently hired for an internship at Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), a pro-life organization in Minneapolis that promotes the pro-life mission through education, legislation, and other events. Steinauer says that Marian always encouraged her to stand up for her beliefs.
WEDDINGS Pam Steier ’88 was married to Erik Monnier on Oct.10, 2014 at Champion’s Run Country Club in Omaha. The couple first met just outside of Sacramento (where they currently reside) and discovered that they are both from Nebraska!
Lauren Orsi ’00 married Scott Moulton in Bagni di Lucca, Italy on April 19, 2014 in a private ceremony underneath a sky filled with rain. Lauren and Scott were married on the 62nd anniversary of Lauren’s grandparents, better known to her friends as Nonni and Nonno. A reception was held in Omaha on May 25, 2014. Honorary bridesmaids were Julie D’Agosto ’00 and Maureen McMahon Rezac ’00.
