WORK HISTORY

Kristi

Will Design, Intern | Spring & Summer 2022 |Half Moon Bay, CA

Designed high-end residential projects. Lead and designed a luxury garage project from beginning to end of design phases. Worked closely with vendors to source, propose, purchase, and expedite items through vendors via Studio Designer. Utilized Sketchup and AutoCAD to create and propose design concepts, drawings, 3D models and renderings to express technical details as well as concept imagery of the overall project. Worked with other designers in the firm to help streamline a collaborative process of rendering.

RH, Intern | Summer 2021

Planned spaces and completed designs for high end, luxury homes using RH products. Particpated in initial design consultations and discussions, design reviews, and purchasing appointments. Went to sites to take measurements and analyze the clients’ home for design as well as participate in a delivery and installation. Took on the full time role of Design Assistant during the last month of internship.

Wilson Associates, Intern | Fall 2020

Worked on a confidential casino project. Modeled the casino in Revit, selected materials, and redesigned and rendered a bar using photoshop. Helped create pricing package for custom lighting as well as putting together a client presentation.

Perkins+Will, Intern | Spring 2020

Assigned to the Corporate Interiors team, supporting multiple new projects and renovations. Participated in an on-site corporate client meeting. Worked on an education and a healthcare project which included helping build physical models of the interior and finding concept imagery for how to design the space. Engaged in the SD, CD, and DD phases of projects. Executed projects using Revit, Enscape, and Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator, to create renderings, presentations, and color blocking plans.

HBG Design, Intern | Spring 2019

Assigned multiple hospitality projects which included casinos, hotels, and restaurants. The projects included designing a pool bar, selected materials and furniture, researched and defined specifications, utilized photoshop, organized materials library, managed communication with vendors, created plans and elevations in Revit and AutoCad, and created mood boards and presentations in InDesign.

San Francisco Residence

Kristi Will Design, 2023

For this project, I collaborated with a small team of designers to design this confidential home in San Francisco. I modeled and rendered the interior using SketchUp, Enscape, and Photoshop to help the client visualize their new home design. I also selected furniture and materials as well as worked on floor plans and elevations in AutoCad.

Santa Monica Residence RH, 2021

For this project, I collaborated with an RH designer to design this confidential home in Santa Monica. I participated in the initial design consultation, design discussions and reviews, and observed the purchasing appointment. I created the floor plan in AutoCad to meet RH standards as well as created the mood board and presentation. I also designed the main bedroom with my colleague’s oversight.

Quest Diagnostics Perkins + Will, 2020

For this project, I collaborated with other creatives in Revit to design and build the break room and entry way. I formulated the materials and implemented Enscape and Photoshop to complete the final renderings.

Pool Bar-Confidential

HBG Design, 2019

For assigned projects such as the pool bar, I wrote all the FFE, OFCI, and Finish specifications, selected all the materials and furniture, drew the elevation and completed the rendering and mood board.

Coffee and Wine Bar-Confidential

HBG Design, 2019

This is one example of the multiple areas that I was assigned in this hotel project where I worked on creating mood boards and circulation diagrams, along with selecting materials and writing specs.

Embassy SuitesBaltimore Inner Harbor

CR Architecture and Design, 2018

As part of my internship at CR Architecture and Design, I worked on multiple hotels’ interior designs including an Embassy Suites located in Baltimore. Part of my role was to create elevations and floor plans. I created multiple iterations by hand along with assisted in the selection of tile brand, style, and color. The design team chose their favorite iteration and I then created the final design in Autocad.

Additional tasks included drawing elevations and floor plans such as the bathrooms or guest rooms and selecting the materials in support of the design.

Poetry Foundation

December 2019

This project was created to design a poetry foundation in an assigned site in the Over the Rhine (OTR) located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The project required an original design with specific size and space requirements. This design was focuses on incorporating wrapping. The wrapping material used with vertical wooden framing to highlight the primary spaces of the building.

Folly Project April 2018

This was a group project where our entire class was broken into smaller groups. Each group had to create a theme. Our proposed theme was seasons which was inspired by a dance representing seasons that our faculty shared. The entire class and faculty voted on the best theme to be the class folly project. The theme that was selected was line, plane, and volume. Our first iteration implied volume using lines and planes and negative space. Our final iteration was modified for simplification, reduction of materials, and improved integration with the other groups’ designs.

Prison Reform for Rehabilitation

July 2020

According to a 2017 report from the U.S. Department of Justice, about 37 percent of people in prison have a history of mental health problems. More than 24 percent have been previously diagnosed with major depressive order, 17 percent with bipolar disorder, 13 percent with a personality disorder and 12 percent with post-traumatic stress disorder. Often many of these prisoners are not able to get the treatment they need and combined with the harsh environments of most prisons, this issue becomes increasingly prevalent. For this project I studied how to design future prisons to promote positive mental health and reform.

Deprivation Theory: This is the idea that when an inmate is subjected to a restrictive environment, certain basic needs may go unsatisfied and an inmate may adapt to the situation by satisfying needs via maladaptive behaviors.

Location: Prisons need to be where people are, near large population centers: prisons need staff; prisoners need to attend courts, lawyers need to see their clients; prisons depend on community services ranging from rubbish collection to health services; families need to visit.

Situational Theory: This is the idea that architectural and social determinants can impact one’s perception of his/ her experience (safety, available resources, relationships) and the likelihood of engaging in violence.

Campus Style Design: If you want prisoners to lead a more law abiding life when they leave, for example, then it is essential to design buildings so they can keep up with social practices and community life. This means factors like eating arrangements; to eat alone is socially unusual and can be quite alienating and institutionalizing.

Existing Prisons - Relapse Environments

The number and acuity level of inmates in correctional settings with mental health disorders continues to increase. The harsh, institutional climate of correctional facilities is the antithesis of a therapeutic environment, causing many mentally ill inmates to decompensate rather than recover.

Key Elements to Support Rehabilitation

Natural Light: Reduces depression, decreases length of stay, improves sleep, lessens agitation, and reduces pain.

Plants/Landscape Scenery: Plants can reduce pulse rate and blood pressure and improve cognitive functioning. Inmates have fewer PRNs (as-needed medications) for anxiety and agitation when exposed to landscape art as compared with abstract art. Inmates prefer nature images, positive facial expressions, and depictions of caring relationships.

Privacy: Residential density with a lower percentage of double cells: this gives inmates an increased sense of privacy and control over their environment; communication with the staff improved as inmates sense of privacy increased.

Noise Reduction: Unpredictable loud noises and yelling will echo in the halls and can cause triggers for those with mental illness.
