Lost Communities
Mae cyflwr presennol y lle yn aml yn adlewyrchu ei hanes a’i unman yw hyn yn fwy amlwg nag yn yr arholiad o ddiwylliant a thirwedd Cymru. Hunaniaeth ac ymdeimlad o berthyn Cymraeg yn amhosibl gwahanu oddi wrth y diwydiannau mawr o echdynnu sydd wedi’u hymgorffori yn niwylliant a chymuned yng Nghymru.
The current state of a place often reflects its history and nowhere is this more evident than in the examination of the culture and landscape of Wales. Welsh identity and sense of belonging are impossible to separate from the major industries of extraction that are embedded in Welsh culture and community.
Mae gan Gymru ddaeareg cyfoethog a mwyngloddio yng nghanol ei threftadaeth ddiwylliannol. Mae’r diwydiannau echdynnu a ddatblygodd o gwmpas llechi, copr a glo wedi bod yn hynod yn gyfrifol am ail-lunio y tirlun cymdeithasol a ffisegol Cymru.
Wales has a rich geology and mining at the centre of its cultural heritage. The extraction industries that developed around slate, copper and coal have been singularly responsible for reshaping both the social and physical landscape of Wales.
Mae diflaniad rhithwir o ddiwydiannau enfawr ac yn cymryd yn gymdeithasol rhain wedi newid yn ffordd o fyw ac yn tanseilio goroesiad iawn o gymunedau cyfan. Beth sy’n parhau heddiw fel eicon i sylfaen o dreftadaeth a diwylliant diwydiannol yng Nghymru yn y tirweddau anthropogenig sy’n sefyll oesol fel adlewyrchiad o berthynas ddynoliaeth ag ef.
The virtual disappearance of these vast and socially consuming industries has changed a way of life and undermined the very survival of whole communities. What remains today as icon to the foundation of Welsh industrial heritage and culture are these anthropogenic landscapes that stand timeless as a reflection of humankind’s relationship with it.
Mae’r gwaith hwn yn cyflwyno cyfres o dirweddau sy’n enghraifft ganlyniad i’r gwrthdaro o angen diwydiannol a difodiant ar les cymunedau unwaith ffynnu nawr colli neu wedi’u dadleoli.
This work presents a series of landscapes that illustrates the consequence of industrial need on once thriving communities now lost or displaced.
