ARC Stockton Written and performed by Jack Bennett

Saturday 31 January – Sunday 1 February

Horizon By Matt Hartley Directed by Kevin Spence

It’s the last day of the summer holidays and that means there is only one place to be: Horizon Shopping Centre. For some it’s a chance to gossip and flirt, but for two sisters it’s everything they’ve come to resent. As closing time approaches a summer of resentment and frustration can no longer be contained.

Friday 6 February Isn’t it daft that we ask teenagers to make really big decisions about their lives? Jack Bennett had to and it’s done him no good whatsoever. He was going to be a world-renowned musician, but one wrong turn and look at him… a two-bit actor with an identity crisis. So he’s decided to ask some pretty big questions; what’s learning for? Why all the rush? Jack Bennett will tickle your grey matter, probe your beliefs and fill your belly with laughs.

Eggs Collective Get a Round

Saturday 7 February

Eggs Collective Created in collaboration with Olivier Award-winning director Mark Whitelaw

Self-proclaimed ‘acoustic foot-stompers’ Rita Payne are one of the UK’s fastest rising acts.

Friday 27 February You know what we always say, better out than in…

Drawing from an eclectic mix of musical tastes, from Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles to Paloma Faith, Rita Payne use breathtaking vocal harmony, mesmerising guitar riffs and toe tapping beats to create their own unique brand of acoustic music.

Pinned on the end of a night out, Eggs Collective Get a Round is a show with lipstick on its teeth and Wotsits on its face. A wayward exploration of friendship, kindness and belonging that spills out towards its audience.

Songwriters Rita Payne have released two albums to critical acclaim, appeared on The Voice, as well as supporting the likes of Reverend and the Makers and appearing alongside The Beautiful South, Bellowhead and The Animals.

Smart and energetic, entertaining and political, this is a piece of theatre that warms hearts and reeks of Blossom Hill. Second Space 7.45pm £10.50 / £8.50 concessions*

Still the Enemy Within Dartmouth Films present a Bad Bonobo Film

Thursday 5 – Friday 6 March An award-winning film documentary that gives a unique insight into one of Britain’s most significant events: the 1984/85 Miners’ Strike. The film weaves stunningly edited archive footage and never-before-seen interviews with the real key players of the strike: the miners themselves. Accompanied by a soulful, timely soundtrack, it brought audiences to tears with a two-minute standing ovation at the Sheffield Documentary Festival, where it won the festival’s prestigious Audience Award. No experts. No politicians. Thirty years on, this is the raw emotional story of those who drove Britain’s longest strike. Second Space 7.45pm £8 / £6 concessions*

Haydn String Quartet in C Op.76 No.3 Emperor Ligeti Trio for horn, violin and piano Hommage à Brahms Bartók Piano Quintet

Diverse young voices birth a truthful show about how love, relationships, politics, gender and everything in between make us stronger beings.

The virtuoso players of Ensemble 360 return to Cast. Haydn’s ‘Emperor’ Quartet from 1797 includes a slow movement that is a set of variation on the tune ‘Gott erhalte’ that he had recently composed in honour of the Austrian Emperor. György Ligeti wrote his Horn Trio in 1982 as a tribute to Brahms. The music has hints of Bartók in its use of driving Bulgarian rhythms, and of earlier composers in the final Passacaglia. Béla Bartók’s Piano Quintet was composed in 1904, before folk music became so central to his style, the influence of Richard Strauss and Liszt is unmistakable. Second Space 7pm £12.50 / £8.50 under 26s and students*

This show will change your perceptions of what poetry is; film, music, movement and collaboration developed alongside Clare Pollard, John Berkavitch and BSL Director Emily Howlett. Featuring a regional headliner hand-picked by Apples & Snakes. Mouthy Poets is a collective of 50 young people, supporting each other to develop and deliver their stories to you. Second Space 7.45pm £10.50 / £8.50 concessions*

She also has a new school project, to source a stranger’s story and present her findings at the annual Christmas Pageant. And so Donna takes it upon herself to befriend the colourful cross-dressing butcher from downstairs. But when her mother goes AWOL and an innocent crush on a local pretty boy goes hideously wrong, Donna’s world begins to disband. A one woman show perfectly pitched between caricature and realism. ALBUM LAUNCH

Dennis Rollins’ Velocity Trio Sunday 29 March

THEATRE

The Life and Loves of a Nobody Third Angel and Sheffield Theatres

Wednesday 25 March

For 25 years trombonist Dennis Rollins has played at the forefront of UK jazz, funk and pop as an ‘impossibly virtuosic’ sideman to such stars such as Maceo Parker, Courtney Pine, Blur, Tom Jones and as an awardwinning leader in his own right. Rollins’ latest project is the Velocity Trio, a brilliant marriage of refined contemporary jazz arrangements with simmering grooves featuring Hammond organ virtuoso Ross Stanley and fiery drummer Pedro Segundo.

Rachel always wanted to be a star, she wanted to run away with the circus, and have her name in lights, and escape from this house – and she dreamed of the future. But people can be ugly. The closer they are the uglier they get. And there’s nobody closer to yourself than yourself. Life is a juggling act. Love is a highwire. Try to do both at once, and it’s a long way down.

Following the release of their critically acclaimed album The 11th Gate tonight the trio launch their new album, Symbiosis.

Internationally celebrated theatre makers Third Angel present a visually stunning exploration of the gap between our dreams and our realities.

Thick as Thieves

Tuesday 21 April

Thursday 16 – Saturday 18 April & Thursday 23 – Saturday 25 April Meet two of Doncaster’s most incompetent criminals. Friends Steph and Barry have never been model citizens, but they are finding it increasingly hard to stay on the straight and narrow. When the pair decide to turn their hands to housebreaking it has hilarious consequences.

Taking you back to 1945 and a railway station platform where a wife is anxiously waiting for her husband, Stanley, to return from the front. Throughout this touching physical comedy, suitcases transform into radios, cribs, typewriters and a whole host of other props; clowning and puppetry combine to paint a picture of how life was for London’s women during the war. This one woman show is based entirely on real-life experiences.

From the company that brought the sell-out I Í Doncaster and Kissing Sid James comes a comedy about shopping deliveries, a dead budgie and realisation that a life of crime isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

‘Europe’s leading dance actors’ captivate you through a mix of powerful storytelling and classical dance as Northern Ballet perform two breathtaking ballets in one evening.

Northern Ballet

Saturday 23 May

Northern Ballet transports you to Japan as the Company presents its much-loved and heartbreakingly tragic Madame Butterfly, specially adapted to give audiences a more intimate experience. The inspiration for the world famous musical Miss Saigon, the story of Madame Butterfly tells of the doomed love affair between an American Naval Lieutenant and his young Japanese bride, Butterfly.

After the sell-out successes of Ugly Duckling and Three Little Pigs, and the TV adaptations for CBeebies, Northern Ballet presents their latest ballet for children, Elves and the Shoemaker. A poor and kind-hearted shoemaker receives some much-needed help when his last piece of leather is transformed into the most magnificent pair of shoes overnight. He discovers that not only are the shoes beautiful; they are also magical. Who is the mysterious maker of these marvellous shoes?

Perpetuum Mobile (Perpetual Motion) doesn’t tell a story but does show off the dancers at their athletic best. The incredible strength and prowess of Northern Ballet’s dancers will leave you breathless. So let Northern Ballet’s uniquely expressive dancers sweep you away for an evening of unrivalled storytelling, dance and live music.
