About Skin Shop

kin Shop is based on the beautiful Channel Island of Alderney and has been the inspiration for our range of natural products. We started making products eight years ago because we couldn’t find the quality of skin care products that we wanted to use on our own skin and that of our family.
We located our mailing centre to just over the water from the Alderney in Southampton to ensure that deliveries are as quick as possible to our UK customers. We try and get all orders placed before midday today to your doorstep tomorrow morning by first class post.
We found it impossible to find natural products for our types of skin. Most natural products seemed to be only for general use on normal skin types. Products for dry skin usually contained both perfumes and strong chemicals or were thick medical emollients that were unpleasant to use and relatively ineffective. Products for greasy skin were full of skinstripping chemicals and there was nothing at all for scalp conditions.

Our first ever production run was for just fifty pots of Cardiospermum Gel for use on very dry itchy skin, as one of our family suffers from eczema. Over time, demand grew from family, friends and friends of friends and by word of mouth and the company grew into what is Skin Shop today, with over fifty thousand customers.

Defensil is an intensive soothing skin crème gel which is excellent at reducing redness, irritation, itchiness, and dryness. It contains a specific concentrated extract of Cardiospermum seed which has been clinically tested against hydrocortisone steroids and found to be more effective at repairing skin, sealing in moisturiser and reducing redness than 0.1% hydrocortisone and only a little less effective than .5% hydrocortisone.
This is a very light gentle moisturising and calming gel containing Cardiospermum has been developed specifically for use on dry, red and itchy skin around the eyes and other sensitive areas. TIP Defensil Gel is a more intense version of Cardiospermum and it may be too strong for some people. Our new Dry Scalp Shampoo has been developed for people with very dry scalps or scalp eczema by one of UK’s leading hair scientists, Tony Maleedy.
This exciting new shampoo containing Cardiospermum moisturises and soothes itchy, dry scalps using pure honey and a clever new ingredient taken from sugar beet to create a rich natural lather. Unlike the foaming agents in most normal anti-dandruff shampoos sugar beet does not cause irritation on sensitive skin or conditions such as eczema and dermatitis, while still producing a rich lather. The shampoo’s Ph balance is 6, which is very close to the skin’s natural Ph of 5. Most anti-dandruff shampoos have a very high Ph to help kill the fungus that causes most typical dandruff, but eczemarelated dry scalp dandruff is not caused by fungus and so Ph of normal anti-dandruff shampoos is too harsh for sufferers of dry scalp dandruff and can actually make the flaking and itching worse.
Two ingredients in normal shampoos can cause a dry scalp. Most anti dandruff shampoos contain anti fungal agents which are very drying and might actually make your dry scalp and dandruff worse rather than better. If you are prone to eczema along your hair line or scalp it could be the Sodium Lauryl Sulphate in your shampoo that’s causing the problem.
