COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
OUR SUPPORTERS
OUR TEAM
IT’S IN THE WATER CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Welcome, While COVID did significantly impact operations in 2021, OTHS started to feel like normal by summer. Our membership bounced back. The gym slowly filled up, bringing a new demographic: youth. Classes were full. Swim lessons, preschools, families, and religious lap swimmers filled the pools. Our team remained healthy, and we could get back to a consistent routine and tackle some large projects. Since our inception in 1935, OTHS has been giving back to the community in the form of donations, discounted access, and more. I often refer to OTHS as the “nonprofit for other nonprofits,” as we support many of our Yampa Valley nonprofits. As a private nonprofit, we need to find the balance in running a fiscally responsible organization to remain open and viable while also increasing access to the facility to those who may not be able to participate normally. In 2021, we decided to formalize our decades-long giving into a formal program called the Community Support Program. A lot of this isn’t new but has allowed us to reframe who we work with and how we want to support the community. The program is broken down into two areas: Nonprofit Support and Individual Support. Our Nonprofit Support includes in-kind membership and day pass donations that other nonprofits can use as part of raffles and auctions. In addition, we provide OTHS grants to a large group of Yampa Valley nonprofits. These grants can be used for day passes, discounted programs, memberships for staff, or auction items. Our partners include STARS, Boys & Girls Club of Northwest Colorado, Horizons, Steamboat Springs School District, and many more. We also introduced individual support as part of our Community Support Program. Prior to 2021, individuals needed to work through DHS to qualify for a free membership. To expand access, OTHS is now receiving applications from individuals and families that need some extra support. This scholarship-type program also extends to swim lessons and the swim team.
A MESSAGE FROM PAT
We hope that these two areas of support make a tremendous impact in the community. In 2021, we gave $94,996 in value to the community through our Community Support Program, and impacted 2590 individuals and 44 local non-profits! We look forward to expanding access to our facility through this program in the future.
As President of the Board, I love looking back at the past year and reflecting on our challenges and victories. 2021 was filled with both and I’m proud to report that we overcame our challenges and found time to celebrate our victories. It was a big year, one for the record books in many ways. The COVID pandemic played a starring role in the first half of the year and then reared its ugly head again in the final days of 2021. We had mask mandates in place, capacity restrictions, and an abundance of policies to keep our team and community as safe as possible. Despite the difficulties, the team persevered and emerged stronger than ever. I continue to hear daily from friends and community members how important Old Town Hot Springs is to them and how grateful they are that this organization took the right steps in keeping the staff and community safe while also staying open. While COVID dominated 2021, we were able to accomplish some amazing things. We welcomed several new Board Members to the team. Our Board of Directors is now made up of 11 skilled members who bring so much experience and expertise to our job. As we move into the initial stages of our Lap Pool Reconstruction project, this experience will be paramount to our success. We also developed a three-year strategic plan that goes into effect in 2022. With a business as complex and diversified as ours, you can imagine that we get pulled in many different directions at a time. With the support of the operational Leadership team, the Board was able to define our focus for the next few years so that we can invest our time and energy into areas that will ultimately support our mission. The three pillars of focus are Wellness, Safety, and Financial Stability. All initiatives developed by the Leadership team roll up to these three pillars and will serve as our roadmap for the future. And finally, we supported the Leadership Team in hosting an amazing fundraising event. A lot of people made the Flip Flop Fete possible and successful including the Board, the Leadership team, the fundraising committee, and the community. We raised $200,000 for the campaign and had a great party too. I’m incredibly proud of what was accomplished this year as a Board and as an organization. I want to thank our Board and Leadership team who are true professionals and always strive for improvement. I’d also like to thank our members. Your support has been so critical this year. Sincerely,
Sincerely,
Stephanie Orozco Exectutive Director

IT’S IN THE WATER CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Old Town Hot Springs’ It’s In The Water Capital Campaign aims to improve our health and wellness offerings to our members, guests, and the community. Thank you donors for making the first part of our Capital Campaign a success! Our building expansion and renovation was completed in the spring of 2019 and has been a tremendous success and has been vital to our community’s health and wellness over the past two years. Pool Area Reconstruction: Our goal is to raise $6 million dollars to execute the essential reconstruction and improvement of the lap pool area. Pending funding, construction will begin August of 2023, with the new pools available for swimming in June of 2024. • New Pumphouse: State-of-the-art and energy-conscious pumphouse to keep all pools running. Construction starts in 2022. • New USA Swimming regulation Lap Pool: A 25-yard, four-to-ten-foot depth, eightlane pool with gutters and a diving board. • Community Pool: A shallow-depth and warmer pool to meet the diverse needs of the community through swim lessons, aquatic physical therapy, low-impact exercise, and aquatic group exercise classes. • Kiddie Splash Pad: A new and improved zero-depth play zone with interactive splash fixtures, slides and lots of shade. • Hot Soaking Pool: An additional hot soaking pool will be added to support the growing demand of the hot springs. All existing hot pools will stay open during the construction. Learn more at www.oldtownhotsprings.org/capital-campaign.
Old Town Hot Springs has been an anchor in our lives since we first moved to Steamboat in 2010 - from birthday parties, when our boys were little, to cold early morning swims, spin classes and Sunday afternoon yoga. We love supporting this incredible facility that supports our own healthy lifestyles. - Sarah & Sam Jones
