Every student in college has unlimited access to one-to-one careers guidance provided by our own highly qualified staff. A range of careers and employability events take place throughout the year, including activities such as: University Open Day visits The Year 12 Careers Day Online Mentors from the world of work and university Mock interviews Higher Education parents’ evening Job hunting support – all Year 13 students who are looking for apprenticeships receive expert support and guidance.

Extra support

You can also take part in a range of activities through the Tutorial Programme, using the Unifrog platform to aid your planning. A dedicated website means you have access to a wide range of current information and opportunities, along with a range of literature and e-books that can be borrowed from our integrated learning environment, The Know. You are free to book a careers meeting in your study periods. We also work closely with the Progress Tutor team who will make referrals if you need guidance planning your future. Our employability coordinator will help identify opportunities for work experience, volunteering and employer engagement. Close links with curriculum areas enable you to access careers activities and information relevant to your subjects.

Specific career programmes

We are especially proud of two elements of our support which we believe are unique: the Aspiring Medics’ Programme (AMP) and the Aspiring Lawyers’ Programme (ALP). These programmes were established due to the high numbers of students aspiring to study Medicine (or Dentistry or Veterinary Science) and Law. These areas have arduous application processes and regular meetings with knowledgeable staff make sure students make the best possible applications. AMP and ALP are frequently supported by ex-OSFC students who are either studying Medicine or Law, or working as doctors or solicitors, providing you with a perfect insight into what your future career could look like.

High achievers’ support

In keeping with our desire to offer outstanding support to all our students, OSFC has a number of initiatives for students who aspire to study the most competitive degree courses at prestigious universities.

Varsity Programme

This is a series of sessions open to all students, providing information and guidance about how to apply to ‘Russell Group’ universities, and focusing on how you can make successful applications. In particular, you are helped to engage in ‘super-curricular’ activities that develop the knowledge and skills, beyond exams, which are prized by top universities.

Oxbridge Group

OSFC’s Oxbridge Group supports students who want to apply to Oxford or Cambridge University. There are weekly meetings from October in Year 12 to December in Year 13. From researching courses and colleges, to preparing for entrance exams, to building confidence for interviews, the sessions give you everything you need. The college also welcomes speakers from Oxbridge and attends a summer Oxford Open Day, with a highly enjoyable overnight stay in an Oxford college.
