REMEMBERING JESSICA By Anne Ragland Finney P'97, Director of Development

The good news is that a place like Oldfields does exist, where students are taught to be thoughtful, critical thinkers who are interested in understanding all facets of an issue.

As I sit here watching our girls enjoy this snowy winter day, I am struck by the contrast between our protected and sheltered campus and the disturbing international and local events I see on the daily news. I realize for the hundredth time, how lucky we are at Oldfields. I wrestle every day with how much information to share with our girls at Morning Meeting concerning current events. I usually come up with a short synopsis of critical news stories, but save the more harrowing ones for them to understand as they get older or to discuss one-on-one with myself or another faculty member if they so desire. It’s a delicate balance. Now is the time for them to experience a teenage life free from the more negative influences and events, yet we need to prepare them for the world beyond our campus. This little hamlet we call Glencoe shields our students from much of the world’s travails. Oldfields offers a safe haven where emotional and intellectual growth go hand-in-hand, where students gain self-confidence, and where there is a family-like approach to education. As we move from the winter solstice to the brighter days of spring, so too we hope to move to brighter outcomes to the global challenges ahead. We can’t deny the darkness that our girls may face, as the events in Paris and San Bernardino attest. We can’t ignore the Syrian refugees fleeing across Europe, searching for a home without strife and danger. Politics aside, I think we all can agree, the refugees want and deserve the same thing for their children that we want for our own – a safe place for them to learn and grow. In many parts of the world, even here at home, there is divisiveness where there should be understanding, darkness where there should be light.

WORLD RENOWNED ARTISTS DONATE GLASS SCULPTURES

How many girls’ boarding schools, much less a school the size of Oldfields, can boast of an art collection that consists of glass sculptures by four of the world’s foremost glass artists? Oldfields can!

Our girls are part of the solution – they are the light. There is a richness and strength in our diversity. Our girls are being educated and living with classmates from all over the world. This fosters an acceptance and a global view that is so desperately needed in our times. We teach the girls to be accepting and open-minded. By their example, as they go out into the larger world, a change will be affected.

Our Art Gallery in Rodney now houses a prestigious collection of works by internationally renowned American glass artists Dale Chihuly, Josh Simpson, John Torreano, and Catherine Rahn, all given to Oldfields in memory of Jessica

On a recent trip overseas to see some alumnae and parents, one of our younger alums slipped me a note about how much she had learned at Oldfields concerning acceptance of other cultures. She shared that she was confident in her role as a leader in her own country because of her experiences at OS. The issue of diversity will affect our students’ lives in many ways, from the college admission process, to navigating careers, to interpersonal relationships. We must stand by the values of diversity and acceptance that made this country strong and independent.

As the days become brighter and longer, we all hope that the cold of the winter and the darkness of closed minds will give way to the light of compassion and warmth of acceptance.

Chihuly Studios

The first to donate was a long-time friend of Jessica’s mother, Dale Chihuly, the preeminent glass artist in the world. Throughout his career, he has been at the forefront of new ideas in glass making and has single-handedly popularized the studio glass movement both in the United States and abroad. In his Basket series, Chihuly nests, stacks, and gathers pieces into astonishing accumulations to create a sense of wonder, forcing our gaze from the surface through to the interior. (www.chihuly.com) Chihuly pieces can be found in the permanent collections of over 200 museums worldwide, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C.; Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre, Paris; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. And now, at Oldfields we have Cherry Blossom Basket Set with Deep Red Lip Wraps.

Perhaps the most meaningful piece in the collection is Jessica’s mother’s contribution, Catherine Rahn’s sea star entitled Purity. Catherine’s source of artistic inspiration is the ocean realm, where she has been scuba diving for two decades. Since the 1980s, Rahn has been working in glass, a relatively new material for art at that time. Glass is ideally suited to the creation of forms that parallel those found in the ocean. The flowing organic shapes inherent to working with blown and cast glass readily suggest sea forms. Few artists have ever attempted to combine art and exploration in the ocean realm. In 1997, Rahn had the idea to take her work into the ocean as a way of merging her love of glass and the sea. The work that Catherine Rahn places in the ocean never remains for more than a few hours—just long enough to document the project—in order to further minimize environmental impact. (www.warmus.org/rahn1.htm) The beautiful Purity is the perfect piece to complete this wonderful collection in Jessica’s remembrance.

Inspired by the story of Apollo astronauts seeing the earth ‘hanging like a blue marble in space,’ Josh Simpson began creating his own fanciful planets in the mid-1970s. This early artistic exploration, combined with his intense interest in physics, cosmology, astronomical phenomena, and all things mechanical, inform and inspire his work to this day. A ‘planet’ begins when silver metal is melted onto a small glob of a unique formula of molten glass, followed by the addition of multiple layers of colored glass, and sometimes gold or platinum leaf. Each planet has spectacular sea or landscapes. (www.megaplanet.com) His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries around the world and is held in the collections of museums such as the Corning Museum of Glass; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Renwick Gallery. Now Oldfields has a Josh Simpson Megaplanet of its own.

As a five year senior, Jessica graced the Oldfields campus from 1991–1996. One only has to look through Rarebit, talk to faculty, or chat with her classmates to realize that she was a force of nature. Here is a sample of how Oldfields remembers her:

“She was an absolute jewel. We were from different backgrounds, but being at Oldfields created a beautiful friendship. She would always make me laugh. Jessica was strong, funny, and smart. John Torreano’s Gem

“ I remember Jessica as being funny, outspoken and brave. She was the bright light in a dull room. She could make you laugh even when you really didn’t want to.”

During his career John Torreano has visited nearly every major art school in the United States and Canada as an artist in residence. Since 1992, he has been clinical professor of studio art at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University. Torreano theorizes that all art “exists somewhere between a totally abstract creation and a total reproduction of physical things in the world.” He believes that artists are similar to physicists in their use of theoretical models to gain insight into the physical world. Torreano uses the gem to bring together the world of theory and the world of things. Because gems are a geometric form, as well as objects of popular culture, his use of fake gems can become real art by standing in the gap between the two. (www.wikipedia.com) In Jessica’s memory, Locke, Ann, Melissa, and Thomas Burt, close family friends, donated one of Torreano’s beautiful glass gems to Oldfields. OLDFIELDS MAGAZINE WINTER 2016

ACADE M I C U P D AT E After successfully completing the application process, Oldfields is now an official member of the National Honor Society, which was established in 1921 to recognize outstanding high school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship leadership, service, and character. Helen Fitz, Karen Miller, and Ansley Smithwick will serve as faculty advisors. A separate faculty council will write the by-laws and establish the criteria for selection. In the spring, the first group of students to be inducted will be announced! Salons are alive and well at Oldfields, and we aren’t talking about where you get your hair and nails done! While studying the Enlightenment period, history teacher, Anna Littlefield '07, replicated the gatherings held by philosophers such as John Locke, Voltaire, Rousseau, and Montesquieu. Students and staff gathered over tea to discuss current issues such as women’s rights, the immigration and refugee crisis, and freedom of speech. This informal setting brought out even the quieter students, and the discussions were thought provoking and hopeful.

ATH L ETI C UPD ATE

Have you heard... Students became the teachers during Oldfields biennial Global Awareness Day, a full-day event designed to educate our students about cultures from around the world. The students, supported by faculty sponsors, volunteered to teach 45 minute classes about their culture, ethnicity, religion, or anything else about which they are passionate and knowledgeable. This year 49 students taught 20 different classes such as “Qing Dynasty” and “Rwanda: Land of a Thousand Hills.” Rodney Hall was alive with the sounds of the tinikling dance (a traditional Phillippine dance that involves tapping bamboo poles), the smells of tteok ggochi (spicy skewered rice cake) being fried, and numerous beautiful bright costumes. A special performance by Native Voices, a Native American storyteller, added to the festivities as Dovie Thomason had the students transfixed when she spun her beautiful tales.

Oldfields’ cross country team won the IAAM Conference C Championship for the second consecutive year, a first in the history of the School! Hannah '18, Austin '16, and Morgan '19 placed third, fourth, and fifth overall, contributing to Oldfields’ spectacular finish. As a result, Oldfields has been moved up to the B conference for next year, and Coach Allison Letourneau could not be more proud and excited. Congratulations, team!

Everyone’s talking about... Everyone needs a break from competition now and then. That’s why Oldfields offers yoga, Pilates, fitness, and our latest addition...bowling! Thanks to Ms. Michele Harrison for bringing this popular activity back to Oldfields after many years of absence.

Varsity basketball had a winning season (13-6) under the new leadership of Coach Stephanie Hill who joined the Admission Office this year. She isn’t the only “youngster” leading the team this year – D’Naisha '19 was voted to join Lissie '16 and Audrey '17 as a team captain, a distinguished honor for a 9th grader! A highlight for new and experienced members alike was the hard fought win against Glenelg Country School, who had a record of 11-0 until they met OS on our home court! Oldfields finished the season with a one point loss in the championship quarterfinals, a heartbreaking finish, but one we all can be proud of! The National Council of Teachers of English selected Tidbit as one of the top high school literary magazines in the state of Maryland for the 2014-2015 school year. This is a victory to be celebrated by staff and submitters alike. Each magazine was scored based on design and content, and Tidbit scored the majority of its points because of the variety of content styles and subject matter. With a record-breaking year, Tidbit published over 70 pages of poetry, fiction, essays, art, and photography by students and faculty. This year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Tidbit, which will be commemorated by a cover contest and “blasts from the past” sharing space with our contemporary work.

Spirit Campaign Update

Did you know...

The Riding Program continues to thrive here at Oldfields! The girls love the smaller group lessons we’ve scheduled this year, as well as the wider variety of horses to ride. We have also added a requirement for all riders to compete in either an in-house or regular horse show (hunter/jumper, eventing, or dressage). This is a great way for the riders to set goals and improve their riding skills. The Oldfields IEA team qualified for Regionals at the end of February. Three individual team members have already qualified as well.

Two exciting winter trips are planned. Several hunter/jumper riders will be heading to compete at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, for two weeks in February where they will lease horses to train and compete under Joe Fargis (Show Jumping Hall of Fame, Gold Medal Winner, and USEF Lifetime Achievement Winner). Additionally, for two weeks in March, several OS eventing riders will return to Aiken, SC, to train and compete where the best eventers in the country get a head start on the season. In December, a “retirement party” was held for one of our beloved school horses, Elmo. After 11 years of service to the School, our “Noble Protector” will relax at a beautiful farm in Middleburg, VA, at Lauren Simmons’ '07 sister’s barn. It was a bittersweet day for Riding Director Amy Roden Phillips, since Elmo arrived the first year she came to Oldfields. We will miss you, Elmo!

Improving life on campus The first new building on the Oldfields campus since Jane House was built in the 1990s is open for business! The new Garden House, which features four beautiful two-bedroom apartments for faculty and staff, has been completed, and its first two occupants have already moved in. New resident Associate Director of Development Ryan Kirk says, “It’s a truly wonderful space, full of modern amenities, yet comfortable and homey at the same time. It’s certainly a stark contrast to Old House, where I lived before!”͟(You’ve heard about those leaks in Heaven...) ͞ Funded by donations from three incredibly generous friends of Oldfields; an anonymous past parent, alumna Emily Ford Embrey ’76, and her mother Clare Glassell, the new Garden House is already being fondly called the “Taj Mahal”͟by Head of School Parny Hagerman because it is so magnificent. A ribbon cutting will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. during Alumnae Weekend, followed by tours of the new building and a lively cocktail party on the premises. “ It is a humbling privilege to be given the opportunity to make one of the Garden House apartments my residence,”͟agrees Associate Director of Admission Caroline Blaum. ͞This is my fourth campus apartment since joining the Oldfields family in 2010, and I cannot say enough about the quality and care that went into this wonderful home.”

Did you see...

The Digital Design class is using Wacom tablets, a creative tool used by artists and designers which allows them to write with a stylus on a tablet, combined with Photoshop, to create some absolutely stunning fashion designs like the one shown by Coco '16. When technology meets talent, the results are amazing.

The level of talent in our annual Holiday Show never ceases to amaze. From vocal performances that had the audience mistyeyed to a dance performance that rivaled the Rockettes, there was a wide variety of acts. Performing Arts Chair Carrie HammondRoemer and Theatre Director Jessica Giffin truly know how to bring out the best in our girls!

At Towson University’s Mistletoe Meltdown concert, ten lucky Oldfields girls performed as the back-up singers for American singing sensation Rachel Platten as she sang her new single, Stand by You. It was a once in a lifetime experience made possible by Oldfields’ sponsorship of the concert, which also had the advantage of getting Oldfields’ name out in front of thousands of teenage girls (potential day students!).

Additionally, the Foundation will fund new flooring for our Pilates studio and will create a team locker room in a currently unused space for our volleyball, basketball, and badminton teams. This will provide a private place to change into their uniforms without going back to their dormitory rooms as well as a venue for the teams to gather before and after games and for half-time chalktalks. As sports are a requirement for every Oldfields student, this very generous gift will benefit each and every girl. Heartfelt thanks to the Foundation for their largesse!

Thanks to wonderful donations like these, the Spirit Campaign now stands at $9.5 million, only $2.5 million away from our $12 million goal. If every Oldfields alumna and past parent sent a gift to the Spirit Campaign, just think what we could accomplish! We’d be at our goal in no time. Aren’t you curious? Come and see it!

Oldfields’ athetes and coaches are thrilled! Our athletic facilities have received a tremendous boost with the announcement of a marvelous grant from a prestigious local foundation long known for supporting athletics at area independent schools. The Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Memorial Foundation, Inc. has offered to fund the purchase of new scoreboards for both the gymnasium and the outdoor playing fields, replacing the old scoreboards which have been in place since 1979. The grant will also fund four new motorized, retractable practice basketball hoops to replace the ones from the 1970s.

By Lindsey Tonks, Alumnae Affairs Coordinator Transitioning from high school, to college, to career, can be difficult. That is why Alumnae Association President and Oldfields Trustee Lulu Laubenstein Good '72 worked so hard to see that her brainchild, the Oldfields Alumnae Mentoring Program, came to life in August 2015. As the first matches were made, great things began to happen. Alumnae and parents of Oldfields students now have the opportunity to join our growing network of mentors and mentees. Whether an alumna is willing to share their career experiences with another alumna or is looking for a mentor from whom to seek career advice, the Alumnae Mentoring Program creates matches based on geographic location and area of interest. Perri Wight Green '76 and Rizza Rivera '14 began their mutual journey in September 2015 and have developed a wonderful mentoring relationship. Rizza, who studies at the University of Richmond, began her college career as an

international studies major, but instead she has decided to pursue a degree in healthcare studies. Perri currently works for the American Foreign Service Association as the Foreign Service Profession Awards and Outreach Coordinator. The two hit it off right away as Rizza shared a concern most college students have, “I think the biggest worry is not getting employed after graduation. I'd really like to hear about the bigger picture, how you got to where you are today. What steps did you take after Oldfields and Bowdoin to secure a job?” That question, no matter your major, is where the center of a good mentoring relationship begins. The answer, as Perri will tell you, isn’t an easy one. But via telephone calls and emails, the two are working together to find the solution. They do know that connections help! In fact, Rizza is considering applying for an internship through the American Foreign Service to better understand how she can apply her education and her many skills to service work in other countries.

By Alicia Bowers, Director of Communications As Oldfields’ 150th Anniversary approaches, we reflect on what has enabled this special school to educate young women for a century and a half. A cornerstone of Oldfields’ longevity is the wonderful tradition of legacy students. For generations, grandmothers, mothers, aunts, cousins, and sisters have sent their beloved girls to follow in their footsteps as Oldfields students. There is no stronger endorsement, and we cherish each and every legacy who is sent our way. Carlisle VanMeter Mayer ’78 attended Oldfields for four years. She was the Green Team Spirit, played field hockey, and had a quote on her senior page that foreshadowed her life of dedication to the School:

Carlisle’s commitment to giving back to Oldfields is demonstrated by her multiple terms on the Board of Trustees, a stint as a Class Agent, and her generous support for over 35 years. She has won too many Alumnae Awards to list, but her most cherished gift to the School was sending her daughter, Charlotte, here as a freshman to continue the legacy. Charlotte comes from a boarding school family as both her parents and her brothers all attended boarding schools. When it came time for Charlotte to select a school, Carlisle said she wanted to keep an open mind and give Charlotte options, but Charlotte’s dad was adamant about Oldfields. Luckily it was a great fit! The fact that Taylor Smith was back as Head of School (he was the assistant head when Carlisle was a student) clinched the deal for Carlisle. Luckily, Charlotte agreed. She had visited the school numerous times with her mother, and said she had a comfort level here that could not be surpassed. “It felt like home,” said Charlotte.

Although Charlotte was nervous at first about living up to her mother’s legacy as a beloved figure around campus, she went on to embrace everything the School had to offer – Green Spirit like her mom and a committed team member of field hockey, lacrosse, and volleyball teams. Carlisle says, “she far surpassed anything I had ever done.” Charlotte went on to become a four-year senior and is currently “loving life” as a Wildcat at the University of Kentucky. Carlisle and Charlotte’s story is just one of many that demonstrate the abiding love our alumnae have for Oldfields. Both are looking forward to celebrating our upcoming 150th Anniversary with us. With wonderful, dedicated legacies like the Mayers, Oldfields will thrive for another 150 years!

Linda McKoy Stewart - Ever since I was editor of the Rarebit in 1943 (the first edition ever to be published in a hard cover instead of a floppy paper binder - we were very proud of that), I’ve been in publishing in one way or another, which is to say I’m conditioned to 1) no response whatsoever or to 2) a boiler plate “not for us.” I have three children and two step-children, all now middle-aged. I also have ten grandkids and eight great-grandchildren. For a number of years I was the US rep for Hachette, the French publisher, selling French book rights to US publishers and US rights to French publishers. But it was, and still is, 99% one way, as US readers happily ignore French authors, though the French reading public eagerly soaks up everything that US publishers spew out. Then I spent a decade with BOM, Book of the Month (does it even still exist?), shaping the reading tastes of middle America. Since the 1980s, I’ve been doing freelance travel writing with hundreds of published pieces (google Linda McKoy Stewart) which I’m vaguely considering compiling into an anthology with plenty of help from the US Library of Congress. Two books I wrote, The Royal Giraffe and 25 Months, are available through Amazon. Enough already! Good luck beating the drum for dear old Oldfields, where I had such a good time whilst dodging any and all knowledge which was placed at my undeserving disposal.

All the family, one grandson in Chicago and another in San Francisco, were together over Christmas at our son and daughter-in-law's in Sherborn, MA, outside of Boston. Our big yellow labrador, Hank, is now 14 and really slowing down and has kept us busy along with golf and tennis.

Constance “Connie” Bereton - I have been here on Assi Ghat in Varanasi, India, for the last 14 years. I came with the question “How do people with nothing live?” I have been a free medical person to people in the street, handling cholera and leprosy and helping install water systems and toilets in slum areas along with screens to keep out the mosquitoes for fear of malaria and encephalitis. I teach cleanliness and everything else I can think of that is needed. I have changed very little except myself. I use my social security to support my activities and myself. Alice Fisher Blood - I'm still year-round in Montana, working part-time as a property manager and landscape gardener, while visiting son, Peter and family in Portland, OR; son, Tom, in San Diego, CA; and son, Nathaniel, in Seattle, WA, whenever I can. Daughter, Lisa, is now here in the Flathead Valley along with my granddaughter, Anne, and my son, Nathaniel, joined me for Christmas. I'm planning to visit with my sister, Frances Fisher '50, in Ormond Beach, FL, in February.

Everyone told us at our age (78 and 83) to move “sooner rather than later.” We chose an apartment with a porch and lake view. It is nice not having to get in the car for almost anything. Our place is undercover and within walking distance of the shopping center. Our children are 56 and 49, and we have eight grandchildren, ages 35 to 6. Oldfields was a wonderful time for me.

Alexander is in the state department, Near East, Afghanistan. Nina Carter Rosselli Del Turco - My husband, Duccio, and I are now living in a retirement home in West Hartford, trying to sell our condominium in Rome and keeping up with our seven children and 21 grandchildren! It doesn't seem as easy now as it used to, but we are well and enjoying life. 21

I have very fond memories of Oldfields, my experience there, although short, changed my perspective on life. Diana “Di” Davis Kingman - Our 50th anniversary is coming up and

we are trying to plan a family trip. Having a hard time compromising on a destination, as our daughter and her family, including five kids, live in France, and our son and his family, including two kids, live in California. My husband and I still love to travel, visiting Cuba, Greece, and France (Paris and Chamonix) in the past year. As a New Year's resolution I am back at work painting in my studio after months of distractions. Also taking Pilates class and walking all around the Easton, MD, countryside - very pretty - and flat! I was busy this summer making Nantucket baskets, including one for Parny, who came to Nantucket earlier this summer. I am encouraging our eldest granddaughter to go to OS – a few years away, but never too early to introduce her. Anyone who wants respite from the cold this winter, come to visit us in Boca Grande.

All our kids are great, and we have two grandkids who are in San Francisco. Being on the Board of Oldfields gets me back to campus three times a year, and I really look forward to it. The School looks great, and it is so much fun to be around the girls and faculty. Our 45th reunion is during the 150th celebration in April 2017. Let's make it the biggest reunion class ever!

turned 20 last week and is a sophomore at Virginia Tech in the School of Engineering on a four year Army ROTC scholarship. Carol Ann is 17 and a junior at Hilton Head High School working on attaining an International Baccalaureate Certificate. She is on the varsity cheerleading team and varsity track team at HHHS. Currently, her brother is trying to recruit her to attend VT! Our youngest son, John, is an incredible actor/singer/ performer. He is in eighth grade and is headed to high school next year. It is hard to believe I will no longer have any children in middle school.

When I see a Louis Lamour book, I think of Jim Weeks and the Wild, Wild West, or when I see a piece of chess pie, I think of the class dinners with the Rogers. Recently, my child was eating marshmallow fluff, and it reminded me of Oldfields. On the cold winter mornings, the first thing I do is put on my Oldfields sweatshirt, the gray one with the appliqued letters spelling OLDFIELDS. Fun times were had by all and only the memories are there to last. I am proud to be an OS girl!

Katie Robinette Corun '96 - Katie has been on quite a journey since she was diagnosed with an inoperable malignant brain tumor in 2011 while in nursing school. As a guest speaker at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s 50th Anniversary Gala this past October, she shared her story. A newlywed at the time of the diagnosis, this was the last thing Katie was expecting to face. Refusing to give up, she continued with nursing school and her part-time job throughout her everyday as well as bi-weekly infusions of chemotherapy for almost two years. She even managed to give back through a group called Angels Among Us, organizing several local fundraisers and raising over $25,000 to benefit Duke’s Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center. The funding is used for brain tumor research, from which Katie has benefited and which is why she is alive today.

Lannin Kerry Braddock - I was married on October 17, 2015, to Michael W. Braddock II on a gorgeous fall day in Wilmington, North Carolina. Kristen Kipnes Phelps '99, fellow alum and my best friend, was my matron of honor.

Katie credits the brain cancer treatment program at Duke University and her local GBMC oncologist, Dr. Gary Cohen, for saving her life. Katie is an ambassador for Duke’s brain tumor center, speaks publicly in and out of the state of Maryland about HOPE and her journey as a brain tumor patient. Although there were many ups and downs, all of which Katie and her husband, Ronald, faced heroically, Katie is now doing much better. She still has some significant health issues due to the unimaginable length of her chemotherapy treatment, but she finds joy in every day. WINTER 2016

Marney Babbitt - What a year it’s been! I am so thankful for social media to keep up with everyone. It has been quite the year of engagements, weddings, and babies. Someday I might catch up to you all. I was recently promoted to Council Director of Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona. I love this program that helps girls to learn about themselves, their values, their hopes and dreams. Brooke Drury Baker - I am living in a horse barn on a large farm

in Harbeson, Delaware, with my husband Matt, our two dogs (Yeller and Trout) and our cat (Alfalfa). I am still riding horses. I have a small modest herd of ten. One of them is Bruce from Oldfields. I also have two Connemara Thoroughbred mares that I ride in Hunters/Jumpers and Eventing. I have quit my full time job to start my own business (Small Wonder Equine Services, LLC) with Equine Dental and Magna Wave PEMF Therapy. I also help my husband, who works at his family’s heating oil and propane business, and he is also a farmer. Yes, I am the farmer’s wife. I cook home-made meals pretty much every dinner and take them to the fields for the farm crew. Can't wait to see you all in the spring! Tara Bliss - I'm living in DC and work for a consulting firm that partners

with higher ed institutions and even some independent boarding schools to assess and develop quality of life facilities (i.e., residence halls, recreation centers, student unions, dining venues, athletic training centers, etc.). I get to play coffee shop every day with a great group of baristas, and Starbucks is about to pay for me to go back to school! I'm going to study psychology, with a minor in ASL. My husband and I are looking to buy our first home in March, and we are super excited! I can't wait for the reunion. I've missed everyone so much. Ashley Grimmel - I graduated from National College of Natural

Medicine in June and shortly after landed my dream job in Arizona. I am working in an integrative oncology clinic as their head nutritionist and program director. As the nutritionist, I get to work with cancer patients directly everyday... so I get to see the positive impact first hand. I also get to develop programming and educational modules that are implemented in centers across the world! I couldn't be happier. I am so, so, so, excited to come back to OS and see you all. It is going to be amazing!

Amanda Walker Hayes - I had my daughter, Mira, on tax day (April 15). She's so amazing! As of now, I'm a stay at home mom. We travel a lot; Mira has been flying around the country since three months old. Our next venture is Vegas in February for SCI. It's the world’s largest international hunting convention. I've lived in Kansas with my husband for about seven years now. I love the winters here! Tara Kaleh - I'm still living in Tempe and working at St. Joseph's in

downtown Phoenix. My fiancé is also a nurse, and he works at Phoenix Children's. We both work the night shift so it's pretty interesting. Wedding planning is exhausting, just FYI. I have been taking a break since October until after New Year’s! Can't wait to see you all! Michelle Lahn - I'm still living in NC. I am now a receptionist at an

awesome animal hospital, where one of the doctors specializes in chiropractic, acupuncture, and laser therapy for animals. I am also back in school working on my vet tech degree. Phoebe Larner - I'm living in Chicago and working in the field I always wanted, but never knew existed until a few years ago. Right now I'm working at a health insurance company where I do user experience research on their website. I actually look forward to and enjoy going to work every day. I keep in contact with many of my friends from OS and love the foundation it laid for me, even leading my path to the all women, historically black, Spelman College. design at Drexel University. I am an aspiring lingerie and swimwear designer with the goal of designing for women with full busts. I currently have a graduate assistantship where I am able to assist faculty and mentor students in fashion related courses. Hannah Sprague - Life in Philly is swell. I had a “rocky” two years but things are looking up. I'm leaving these city streets to go to Smith College to receive my master’s in clinical social work. So this would mean I had an all-girls education for high school, college, and now grad school! Weird how that worked out. Smith is also where my mom went to college. I am also currently training to compete for the Amateur National Title in MMA (cage fighting) January 9th in San Diego, where upon winning I'll be part of the U.S. Team competing for the World Title in Brazil come March! Madison “Maddie” Cole Reese - I married Glenn Reese on October 10, 2015, in my hometown of Elkton, MD. We now live in Media, PA, and I work in Philadelphia as a nurse for the University of Pennsylvania. I also have the great pleasure of seeing Taylor Smith occasionally, along with some other OS girls, when he visits family in Philadelphia.
