r.~Canon~sUser ..Oriented Philosophy The Canon CX-1 Desktop Computer was developed with Canon's latest state-of-the-art technology and incorporates a user-oriented philosophy based on our worldwide experience in marketing desktop computers. The CX-1 is the perfect business computer to carry out office rationalization. The CX-1 can be used in

i'i'i.=_\ ,,\dll\) System The CX-1 realizes system flexibility by adopting a floppy disk operating system called the Monitor Propram for Canon X-Series or MCX. It consists of a device handler, file management system, console command processor, and supervisor call function. TITe r.1CX completely controls 3f,SIC and .. any field-business, science, engineering, or education. In the office, it serves as the core of a total information system, providing data and information processing for statements and reports specifically designed to enhance office efficiency and decision making. Special text and document retrieval and editing functions provide fast playback and repetitive printout of a variety of documents.

Canon BASIC Language Features 1, A variety of arithmetic and string functions for a wide application range. 2. Matrix functions for science, engineering, and other fields requiring mass data computation. 3. Random and sequential access for data retrieval.

4. ISAM (Indexed Sequential Access Method) as a BASIC utility for instant retrieval of specified data items in a file. 5. ASSEMBLER program cailing in BASIC program by parameter passing. 6. BASIC program control of interfaced peripheral-devices conforming to GP-IS standards.

Word Processing The CX-1 not only processes data but is also capable of word processing. The CX-1 's word processing utility encompasses printing and format functions that include right margin justification, underscoring, centering. indentation, heading, footing, and --overstriking, as well as flexib:e editing such as merge, search, and replace.

Re~d)-l o-Use System The CX-1 employs an MC-6809 microprocessor, widely acclaimed as the most powerful of the 8-bit processors, and a floppy disk operating system for flexibility and expandability. System initialization and diagnostic functions automatically start a system check as soon as the power is turned on, to make sure that there are no irregularities or malfunctions. Once the MCX Operating System is loaded into the system RAM area from the mini-floppy disk, the CX-1 is ready for BASIC command entry by the operator.

Func uonar Keyboarci An independent 1 O-key numeric pad has been added to the fuli ASCII keyboard to make heavy numeric data input taster Easier programming is possible by dual command entry; statements can be spelled out using alphabetic keys or can be en ered by using keywords assiqned to speci IC alphabetic keys.

_cj'Sc CR -:- [);:;r.,!t y Scr eer, The easy-ta-read, 1 2-inch green CRT display is the conversational center oerween the CX-l and the operator. The eRl screen can display 128 different charac a symbols inc!udill9 those tor the construction of charts and tables. In addition, it is also possible to call attention to specific locations on the

screen by increasing the brightness of 64 characters. The screen image can be stored on a dis« as a data image file and can later be reproduced on the CRT screen. Tnis screen image can be easily updated and output to an external printer for a hard copy at any time. A special BASIC screen editor has also been included for easy BASIC program editing. In the near future, a graphic function will be added to these excellent functions as an option.

Bulk Information Processing The CX-l features as standard, a 32Kbyte user's RAM and two 320K-byte MiniFloppy Disk drives. The user's fiAM can be extended to a maximum of 96K-bytes The Mini-Floppy Disk System X-3300 (320K-byte x 2) or the Standard Disk --Syste~n X-8330 (1 M-by-te~'-0) C"ii be used with the CX-l as external cllsk drives. Disk data files and devices are handled as logical files by the CX-l 's file management system. This total system consistancy allows integrated system flexibility. ISAM (Indexed Sequential Access Method) utility facilitates highspeed search. addition, or deletion of oata items. The storage units and file management vstern greaJly increase tne speed. accuracy, and ease of processing bulk information.

Versatne Hardware Fxpandaoility The CX-1 has six interface ports designed to amplify system capability. Three ports are for V-24/RS-232C IIF, one for a Centronics I/F, one for a GP-IB IIF, and another for optional device connection. There is also a connector for an external floppy disk system and one for an optional light pen. All of these interfaces and connectors are integrated internally in the CX-l so !Ioat all you have to do is plug the peripherals directly into the CX-l. This all-in-one concept plus peripheral interface capability and consistant file management make il easy to realize a system to fit your needs.
