temperatures continue to cool. Cooler water temperatures means longer period of activity for bass. Instead of only an hour or two in the very early morning bass are now being caught throughout the day. Top water baits are still drawing a few strikes early but for the most part the activity is structured around a bait that is deeper in the water column. Cast and reel baits will work well for some of the fish, while others have to be cajoled to bite by a slower moving bait. The North end of the lake features water that is very clear, the depth of the water however is what prevents an angler from seeing the bottom in water over 4 feet deep. Shiner fishing has really blossomed into a great bite over the last
month with large bass and large numbers of bass being caught on a frisky wild golden shiner. The east side of the lake around J&S is holding large numbers of bass as is grassy island and eagle bay. The west side of the lake is more subject to the prevailing winds at this time although there are huge numbers of bass to be caught there. The Harney Pond area is rife with hydrilla and eel grass and the fish are making good use of it, chasing bait and feeding heavily both in and around the grassy edges. Specks have not made an appearance in large numbers yet, although minnow sales are starting to pick up around the tackle shop as the winter visitors start to return.
