Outdoor Sports and Facilities Thanks to Florida’s year-round summer-type weather, residents, young and old, are able to stay busy outdoors all yearlong. From seasonal sports and racing to outdoor fun in the woods, visitors will never be left looking for something to do. With most days filled with sunshine and warmth, you never have to worry about it being “golf season.” Each county has courses open to the public, including one of Okeechobee’s located at the largest KOA in the system, as well as one in Moore Haven that is a nine-hole championship golf course designed by Mark Sauger located at The Glades RV Resort, Golf and Marina, and the championship 18-hole Clewiston Golf Course. With the several woodlands that surround Lake Okeechobee, hunting and shooting are a great way to pass the time. In Okeechobee, for example, there are two premier outdoor-shooting and recreational facilities, Quail Creek and OK Corral, which both offer pistol and rifle shooting and possible hunting packages depending on the season. There is also Okeechobee Shooting Sports, a 100-acre outdoor facility rated five stars by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

In Glades County located near the small town of Palmdale, Fisheating Creek Outpost gives visitors a chance to fish and hunt while enjoying the outdoors. And situated on the outskirts of LaBelle, in the small town of Muse, lies Silver Lakes Preserve, owned and operated by Lykes Bros. Inc. This pristine hunting preserve offers a variety of hunting and shooting opportunities, including deer, turkey, alligator and pheasant, along with spacious and comfortable accommodations for overnight guests. If your idea of fun is being in the driver’s seat then the lake region can oblige as there are dirt bike and ATV tracks.
