Nichols Hills has big plans to transition much of its fleet of vehicles to electric and has announced it is a recipient of a $266,121 grant from the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) to help achieve these goals. The Public Fleet Conversion Grant reimburses certain costs incurred for the purchase of four dual DC fast-charging electric vehicle charging stations and a CNG sanitation truck. ACOG is awarding the grant to seed the advancement of alternative fuel vehicles and certain hybrid vehicles. Two charging stations are to be located at City Hall police and fire department parking lots, 6407 Avondale Drive, and two are planned to be located at the Public Works facility, 1109 NW 75th Street. Nichols Hills does not currently have any fully electric vehicles. Two of the city’s patrol vehicles are hybrid and it is in the process of transitioning some vehicles to electric with plans to purchase two electric police vehicles in 2022. “It is important to note how instrumental Mayor Hoffman was in the city receiving this grant,” said Shane Pate, Nichols Hills city manager. “Nichols Hills often struggles to be eligible for federal and state grants due to a variety of circumstances outside the city’s control. “Recognizing this, Mayor Hoffman approached ACOG over a series of meetings with some key priorities in his vision for the city in hope ACOG could help Nichols Hills identify grant funding for which we would be eligible to receive,” said Pate. “Once the Clean

Oklahoma Humane Society, Palomar partner to help animals impacted by domestic violence By Rose Lane Editor With none other like it in the nation, the Oklahoma Humane Society’s Animal AQdvocate Program is working with Palomar: Oklahoma City’s Family Justice Center, to serve the human and the animal victims of domestic violence. Humane Society Animal Advocate Brittany Crow said the program began in October 2018. “We are the first program of

our kind in the nation to work out of a family justice center,” Crow said. “We work on-site at Palomar to meet with victims, assess their needs and provide on demand crisis services. “We can provide temporary foster placement for a client’s animals (furry, feathered, farm, reptilian, aquatic, you name it) while they work to secure safe housing amidst fleeing domestic violence.” She said there is an on-site pet pantry where clients can get any supplies needed for the

He aced it! Casady sophomore achieves a perfect ACT score

EDWARD KANG

Edward Kang, a sophomore at Casady School, has earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36. Fewer than half of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2021, only 4,055 out of 1.29 million students who took the ACT earned a top composite score of 36. “I spent my summer break studying for the ACT nearly every day, so it was a huge relief when I got my scores

back,” Kang said. “Thanks to the help from my parents and mentors, I was able to feel confident when I walked out of the test room after the exam. I am very grateful that my work paid off in the end.” The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science, each scored on a scale of 1–36. A student's composite score is the average of the four test scores. The score forACT’s optional writing test is reported sepa-

FRIDAY’s Dog

of the Week

This is the newest member of the Rebecca and Blake Robbins household, Buzz. He is a feisty little French bulldog puppy. Even though he is only 4-months-old, he loves to play with his big brother, Astro. He loves running through leaves and finding sticks in the backyard before his brother. He can sit really well especially if there is cheese involved. Don’t let his cute face fool you, he can clear out a room in true bulldog fashion! Send Pet and Baby of the Week nominations with complete descriptions to rose@okcfriday.com.
