CWW Member Spotlight SAFETY | SECURITY

Adams Direct Consulting By CWW Member Richard D. Adams

Richard D. Adams is a strong believer in the fact that technology has undeniably proven to be an instrumental device in preventing and solving a multitude of societal issues in current day. Workplace violence is on the increase. According to workplace violence statistics from the U.S. National Safety Council, two-million Americans are victims of workplace violence each year. Founded by Richard Adams, Adams Direct Consulting exists to eradicate that. While security has always been a concern within the workplace, employers are now seeking ways to be proactive versus reactive and that’s what Adams Direct Consulting offers. Using technology to lower workplace violence incident rates, they have a birds-eye look into the inner connectivity of a workplace. Their Threat Mitigation (TM) app, offers businesses the opportunity to monitor suspicious incidents and possible precursors to workplace violence in real-time. Using the technology he’s developed with his company, Adams is able to recognize trending situations as far as overall workplace violence (and outstanding violence in general) and create solutions based on these data trends. The important part, he believes, of incorporating technology into the process of early-violence-detection, is determining the appropriate physical response - using technology as a force multiplier to achieve the desired results. Lately, in the violence prevention section, many are straying from the term “active shooter” and moving towards the generalization of “active assailants.” An active assailant pulls on the definition of any individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area. Adams believes that most often than not, there are precursors and red flags to these events that are present via technology and social media. All too often, there are signs right out in the open that people may dismiss or take for something other than what it is. He believes that if more attention is given to people with mental illnesses rather than dismissal, there will be a reduction in violent events occurring. The TM app can help with this, as it educates employers and others who are interested in learning, on what the warning signs for individual who may act out can look like. Users are able to submit the issue(s) anonymously so the individual who is viewed as a potential threat can get the help and care needed to hopefully prevent such an act. Victims left untreated, often later victimize others. Prevention is key. See Richard D. Adams’ bio on page 156.
