Dr. Evan J. Leonard Assistant Professor, Clinical Physician Assistant, Doctor of Medical Science Nova Southeastern University and University of Florida Health Jacksonville, FL Dr. Evan J. Leonard is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Medicine as an Assistant Professor, Clinical Physician Assistant, and Doctor of Medical Science at Nova Southeastern University and University of Florida Health in Jacksonville, Florida. As of January 2020, Dr. Leonard will be an assistant professor at Gardner-Webb University. He lectures on topics such as medicine, surgery, pathophysiology, physical diagnosis, clinical procedures, surgical skills, and anatomy. A native of Florida’s west coast, Dr. Leonard is an expert at physician assistant studies, especially in the areas of human development, anatomy, and several internal medicine topics. He has four years of experience in clinical medicine and four years as a professor. Teaching is his unbridled passion, aiming to touch lives and inspire students to enter fields they would have never imagined entering. In 2004, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps reserve, gaining three years of managerial military experience in a medical battalion. His parents played a significant role in Dr. Leonard’s success, exampling intellectualism, altruism, and hard work. The greatest lesson he has learned is to stay focused and disciplined early on, as challenges only increase after school. In preparation of his career, Dr. Leonard attended the University of Miami, earning a Bachelor of Arts in human biology in three years of study. Transitioning to Barry University, he received a Master of Science in anatomy. He then attended Nova South University where he earned a Master of Medical Science. Three years later, he enrolled at Lincoln Memorial University, receiving a Doctor of Medical Science in 2019. He is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. He practiced family and emergency medicine with the University of Florida for three years.

Dr. Leonard has always been fascinated by the human body, viewing it as mystifying. He has a strong and biding desire for altruism. He is particularly honored to have his writings citied in various publications. His publications include his research on cardiovascular topics, as well as his medical missions to Africa. He co-authored several reports and independently published “The Genetic Causes of Congenital Heart Disease” in 2017. A frontrunner in his field, Dr. Leonard is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Florida Academy of Physician Assistants. Serving on the Board of Physicians for the American Health Council, he is a member of numerous organizations, including the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants and the American Association of Clinical Anatomists. When asked what advice he has for novices in his field, Dr. Leonard replies, “One has to be driven by altruism. You have to have a border line obsession with understanding the human body with a superb foundation in human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.” His greatest professional inspirations are his father Dr. Stephen Leonard, Dr. Randy Scott, Dr. Fawzi Soliman, and, most notably, Dr. Carlos Santa Cruz. In his spare time, Dr. Leonard enjoys reading, college football, fine dining, academic writing, and the symphony. He is an active member of his community, volunteering as a medical counselor with Alcoholics Anonymous. Dr. Leonard dedicates this recognition to his wonderful father Dr. Stephen Leonard, DPM, thanking him for his continuous love and support.
