Board Vacancy for District 5

Co-op mourns loss of Keith Daugherty

The board of trustees will appoint a candidate for the vacancy in District 5. This term expires in March 2019.

Darke REC Trustee Keith Daugherty died March 25 after battling a lengthy illness. He faithfully served on Darke REC’s Board of Trustees for more than 16 years and held the office of Vice President. Keith was a lifelong farmer in the New Madison area.

If you have an interest in filling that position, please call the co-op office by May 12. Interested candidates will be presented to the board at the May 25 meeting. District 5 represents Harrison and Butler townships in Darke County.

The co-op office will be closed on Monday, May 29, in honor of Memorial Day. Thank you to all who served. For emergency service, please call 937-548-4114.

stable for at least the next few years. Board President Jack Kitchel discussed Darke REC’s commitment to community through its Operation Round Up program. This program, which is funded by rounding up members’ bills to the next dollar, gave $22,400 to local causes in 2016. Since the beginning of Operation Round Up, Darke REC members have given a total of $320,275. “It always amazes me the amount that is collected just by rounding up your bill to support our communities,” Kitchel said.

Kitchel also reported the recent retirement of $1.02 million in capital credits to members. Checks for credits earned in 2001 were delivered to members in December. “We continue to return capital credits on a 15-year cycle,” Kitchel said. “And I want you to know that your co-op continues to be financially sound.” Several members won door prizes, and entertainment was provided by the “Back to School Quartet.” Sharon Lapp and Janet Heitzman each won an $80 bill credit in celebration of the 80th annual meeting.
