iji’s first and original Off-Road Cave Safari was recently visited by an outgoing team of journalists from Australia.

Craig Tansley (Freelance travel writer for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald), Amber Ledsam (writer for mX), Quentin Long (International traveller Magazine) and Frances Kindon (OK! Magazine) were accompanied on the road less travelled by Sigatoka River Safari’s Managing Director, Jay Whyte. “How cool was the ATV ride up?! I loved it!” said Quentin. “This whole trip was amazing! Wish we were here for longer. It’s an experience we will never forget,” he added. After visiting Fiji’s largest cave system, the journalists then took a dip in the nearby swimming hole and then took another dip after their BBQ lunch. The group visited Fiji compliments of Air Pacific and stayed at the Shangri-La Fijian Resort & Spa on the Coral Coast and were also at Koko’s Bar in Korotogo.

Caving it...Mystery Tour!

A

Team Mettler all smiles with Safari and ATS staff.

team from Mettler-Toledo Limited, who came from across Australia, were in for a big surprise when they hopped in their personal transfers to be taken on a mystery journey.

Departing the Sofitel Resort & Spa with only instructions on what they were told to bring the team had no idea that they were heading to the interior of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu. “How long till we get there?” one would ask, “5 minutes” , replied their guide. (20 minutes later) “How much further?” another would shout “5 minutes!” Upon arrival at safari base, 5 minutes (Fiji time) later, they soon had a rush of excitement and nervousness (for some) now knowing what they were in for. “Mate! Just keep an eye on those bushes. It’s all a set-up!” one would say after hearing stories from their ATV driver about cannibalism. “The first day of their program was for Core Management and we wanted them to do something out of the ordinary to bring them together for the day, “ said Sally Cooper, DMC Manager, ATS Pacific. “Only a few of people knew what the activity was going to be so there was always that element of surprise and they loved the experience,” she added. Extra touches to their experience was provided for by ATS Pacific with extra cushions, mats and some nice local brew to wash down the “kava”. MORE PICTURES NEXT PAGE...

“Mischief “having her first bowl of kava

his month of November has surely been a busy one for the Off-Road Cave Safari team. Extending our safari family with travel agents from near and far countries on familiarization trips, it was certainly a month to remember!

Tourism Fiji geared up to host another mega educational trip for their Matai Specialists from Australia and New Zealand. This trip was one of a kind for most of the agents as some of them had never been to Fiji and for those who had , had never been beyond heir luxurious hotels. Even for the first time, a miss chief or should we say mischief was appointed to lead the Kava ceremony, creating history on the tour. From meeting the locals along the way, learning the history of Fiji and significance of the sacred Naihehe cave to drinking the best “chocolate milkshake” (kava) in Fiji, this was definitely one cherished memory they would take back home.

Yahoo! On the road less travelled...

ff-Road Cave Safari was more than happy to welcome a young journalist who was no stranger to the pacific island ways of life.

Regina Dinneen, a journalist for Yahoo!7 Sports, was in the country to cover the Coral Coast 7s in Sigatoka. Being on the tour, had made her realize how Fiji is still very much intact with their tradition and culture compared to other nations. Hearing her interesting stories from a time when she stayed in an island in Micronesia, it was obvious she was an adventurous young lady. “I’ve been in a cave before, but none like this one. It’s amazing how they survived in those days and being deeper in the interior Bill, atv driver, pictured with Regina of Fiji , its just all breath-taking!” As for the Kava? ...“The Kava was nice! I liked the Kava!”
