Haitian Heritage Month is an annual celebration in May that honors the rich culture and contributions of Haitians and Haitian-Americans to American society. It was designated by Congress in 1998 and holds significance for all Americans, as it celebrates diversity and recognizes the achievements of a people who have excelled in various fields such as music, literature, sports, science and politics. Haitian culture features unique and diverse music, dance, cuisine, customs and history. The Palm Beach County Library System is proud to honor Haitian culture, history and language during Haitian Heritage Month in May, a month which incorporates the important holiday of Haitian Flag Day on May 18.
