Scholarship Donor Dinner Many generous individuals and organizations have established and sustained endowed scholarships at Belmont University. Those donors who establish and support Belmont’s scholarship program make a remarkable impact on a student’s life year after year. Whether a scholarship is merit-based or need-based, all scholarship recipients represent the finest caliber of students Belmont has to offer. As an expression of gratitude to donors who have made an endowed scholarship possible, Belmont has established an annual tradition of bringing scholarship donors and their scholarship recipients together for the Belmont Scholarship Donor Dinner. This very special evening allows donors to meet and interact with the very student they help, seeing firsthand the immediate and personal way their gift has changed a student’s life. The evening’s program typically includes a compelling student or alumni speaker who benefited from scholarship support, a musical performance, and a keynote speaker who has been instrumental in providing scholarship support. At the 2012 Belmont Scholarship Donor Dinner, guests heard from Belmont alumna Ginny Owens, a 1997 Music Education graduate who has gone on to become a three-time Dove Award winning artist, including the Gospel Music Association’s 2000 New Artist of the Year. She is also a multiple ASCAP Award winner and has sold nearly one million albums. Before her illustrious career in the music industry, Ginny was the recipient of the Robert Widney Keyt Scholarship at Belmont and she shared how receiving financial support to attend Belmont helped provide the foundation for her current success. Also at the 2012 dinner, Stan Duke, father of Tyler Garrett Duke, spoke about continuing his son’s legacy through the Tyler Duke Memorial Book Scholarship. Tyler was a pharmacy student who suddenly passed away in 2009. His life continues to touch so many students through his scholarship established in his memory by his loving family.
