UNIVERSITY INFORMATION Ohio Dominican University is an accredited four-year liberal arts institution, founded in 1911 in the Catholic and Dominican traditions. The university has more than 3,100 students and offers undergraduate degrees in over 50 majors as well as six graduate degree programs. Ohio Dominican uses a student-centered approach, with a commitment to quality teaching and learning and a number of academic programs of distinction. Academics are at the heart of everything done at Ohio Dominican University. Institutions of higher learning exist to provide education for their students, and that education starts in the classroom. It continues, of course, on athletic fields and in residence halls, in rehearsals and clubs, in the library and the lab, but it begins with the relationship between students and their instructors. Additionally, students complete a sequence of courses in one of 50 undergraduate major areas of study including those in the arts, sciences, and professions. Led by a talented faculty dedicated to excellence in teaching and committed to helping students learn, ODU’s student engagement model focuses on serving the whole student through personal attention and assistance in collaboration with the institution’s Division of Student Development. Ohio Dominican is fully accredited and offers academic programs at the baccalaureate and masters degree levels through five divisions: Arts and Letters; Social and Behavioral Sciences; Mathematics, Computer and Natural Sciences; Business; and Education.
its extracurricular offerings, providing a greater number of on-campus activities for both residential and commuter students. A central focus has been the addition of a new Student Center and expansion of athletic programs, which attract student athletes and non athletes alike, and foster alumni participation. Student organizations and activities at ODU offer events and activities that relate to areas of academic interest, student government, artistic performance, multicultural identity, media, athletic, social, honorary, religious and service organizations. Ohio Dominican student activities and events are open to all students. Over the past 10 years, Ohio Dominican has followed an aggressive expansion plan for its facilities which include three new residence halls; additional sports and recreation facilities; development of Sunbury Road as a gateway to the campus; the new Bishop James A Griffi n Student Center and a new science facility, Battelle Hall. In 2011 the students, faculty, staff, alumni, community leaders and friends celebrated the University’s Centennial anniversary. The Centennial theme, A Century of Transforming Lives, reflected on ODU’s Dominican heritage, history and tradition. This celebration encouraged the University community to reflect upon the transformative effect that Ohio Dominican has had on the lives its faculty, students, alumni, staff and friends. Ohio Dominican is focused on becoming the preeminent Catholic institution of higher learning, providing quality programs in both the liberal arts and the professions, committed to the fundamental value of liberal education, and deeply rooted in its Dominican tradition.
