As this will be my final issue of Ocean magazine, it’s with gratitude that I share this warm finale with my sister, Amy Mccabe, who has shared in the journey the past 10 years. Since the debut issue in 2005, together we have discovered many different flights of bringing life to Ocean magazine. Model, fashion icon and designer for her own label, ále by Alessandra, Alessandra Ambrosio tells us about her inspiration as a designer and advice to achieve her casual, chic and effortlessly-cool style.
On why she decided to launch her brand… We just launched swimwear in November of last year, so it was natural to add a hat collection next, since every woman should have an amazing hat to keep cool during hot summer days. The story of how her line came to be… Personally I lean towards bohemian chic style because I love flowy dresses and layered pieces so I wanted to create a collection for woman inspired by the world around her – family, travel, books and everyday life and that is how ‘ale by Alessandra was born. The most exciting milestones for her company… We launched apparel in April of 2014, and we have already expended the collection to swimwear and now hats and bags.

What people don’t know about designing an accessory line… It takes a long time to create a product and every little detail is important How she plans to grow her company… Right now I focusing all my energy on designing new seasons, but there are few things in the works that are upcoming in 2015. How to stay true to your vision… I am very passionate about creating a product that is true to my vision, and I work with amazing team that makes sure every pieces of clothing we produce is exactly what I envisioned. The best career advice she’s ever received… My mom always thought me to be persistent in anything you do. Nothing comes easily so it is important to set goals and work on making them a reality Her muses and inspirations… My biggest inspirations in life are my children. How she shops for personal items… I am a creature of habit. I know what I like and I go to same places most of the time.

The last jump is the most dangerous and the priciest, coming in at $998. HALO jumpers need to take extra precautions, like taking in extra oxygen and wearing warm layers, but the jump has only grown in popularity as the spectacular views and extra 30 seconds of air-time make up for the other downsides. GIRLS’ GUIDE TO SUP Stand up paddling has changed my life! I am so excited to become an ambassador of the fastest growing water sport in the world! The coolest thing about SUP is that anyone can do it. Whether you live by the ocean or even in a desert, the sky’s the limit. One may choose to race, SUP surf, or maybe just cruise around and sight see with friends. Me? I grew up in a surfing family and was raised by the ocean. We were one of the first in Florida to actually own a SUP. When we would paddle by, people would stare as if we were walking on water. Who knew that my brother and I would end up becoming pioneers of the sport. At first it was just another toy, until we realized the full potential of owning a SUP. Not only is it an amazing core workout, building strength and balance, it’s enjoyable at the same time. SUP has allowed us to introduce and share our passion with so many cultures around the world. I suggest you give a try and grow with us. Spread the love of SUP!
Though, before you go out and take the plunge, I have some helpful tips for an enjoyable SUP session. * Book a lesson or tour just to get your feet wet * Make sure you know your limitations and follow water safety guidelines specific to your surroundings * Always SUP with a friend * Make sure you have a leash and a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) * Stay hydrated~Bring a water pack * A proper sized board is a must~Bigger is better in the beginning~Stability is key * Make sure you use the proper size paddle~Surf:shorter paddle, same as your height~Race:longer paddle, 2-4 inches overhead * “Surf Etiquette” rules do apply...Don’t be a wave hog! * Sun protection is a must (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, rash guard, etc) * Have FUN!!!
