Dear Supporters and Friends,
As we close out this year, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible community that surrounds and supports Ocean Institute. Each day, I see the impact of your generosity in the eyes of curious students, the enthusiasm of families exploring our exhibits, and the joy of our community gathering for programs and events.
This has been a year of growth and momentum. We expanded opportunities for Title I schools through Adopt-A-Class, invested in new educational tools that bring science and maritime history to life, and welcomed record numbers of visitors who discovered, learned, and connected with the ocean in meaningful ways. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our staff and volunteers and the unwavering support of donors, partners, and friends like you.
Looking ahead, we are committed to deepening our impact and broadening our reach. With your continued partnership, Ocean Institute will remain a beacon of discovery and learning, preparing the next generation of ocean leaders.
Thank you for being at the heart of our mission. Your support lives on in every moment of discovery, every spark of curiosity, and every ripple of inspiration.
With gratitude, WendyLeavell

Dear Friends of Ocean Institute,
As I reflect on this past year, I am reminded of how firmly the Ocean Institute is rooted in its mission, even as it embraces exciting new opportunities ahead. Together, we have inspired thousands of students, families, and visitors through hands-on science, maritime history, and unforgettable experiences that spark curiosity and stewardship.
Looking forward, the challenges facing our oceans are great, but so too is the promise of the next generation. With your continued partnership, Ocean Institute will remain a place of discovery, inspiration, and impact for years to come.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you for your generosity, trust, and belief in our mission.
With gratitude,
Collie James Collie James Chairman of the Board, Ocean Institute

Looking towards to the future, Ocean Institute is committed to expanding access, deepening impact, and reimagining how our community engages with ocean education. Our top priority is growing the Adopt-A-Class program so that 100% of qualified schools can participate, ensuring every student has the opportunity for hands-on marine science and maritime history learning. Currently serving 41% of applicants, we aim to close the gap through sponsorships, grants, and partnerships across Southern California and beyond. By investing in access today, we’re shaping the next generation of ocean stewards and community leaders.

Ocean Institute is deeply committed to expanding equitable access to these transformational experiences. Through outreach, partnerships, and targeted funding, we’re removing barriers for underserved schools and ensuring every child has the opportunity to explore, discover, and be inspired by the ocean.

“Looking ahead, we are committed to deepening our impact and broadening our reach.”

Your support makes these moments possible.

Every donation, sponsorship, and Adopt-A-Class gift opens the door for more students, especially those who might never otherwise have access - to learn, explore, and discover their potential through hands-on, experience-based learning that empowers them far beyond the classroom.

The voices of students, teachers, and community members who remind us why Ocean Institute’s mission matters - made possible through your support.

“For many of my students, it was their first time seeing the ocean Watching them touch sea stars and study plankton brought science to life in a way the classroom never could. They returned more curious, confident, and inspired to learn.”

“I really loved the trip to Ocean Institute because even though before the field trip I wanted to be a marine biologist or oceanographer, it really made my interest flare.”

“Our 4th graders stepped aboard the tall ship as students and left as sailors. They hoisted sails, worked as a crew, and learned to rely on one another The maritime program didn’t just teach them history, it built teamwork, confidence, and a sense of adventure they’ll carry with them long after.”

“My kindergarteners came back from the Ocean Institute absolutely glowing with confidence. For many, it was the first time they saw themselves as scientists and explorers That spark of belief is something I’ll never forget ”
“I have decided that though the internet and textbooks can teach you quite a bit about the ocean, nothing is a better teacher about oceans than the ocean itself ”

“Thank you so much for teaching me about the wonders beneath the waves! I learned so much at Ocean Institute during our time there.”

Summer campers know how to make the most of their ocean classroom; tidepool hikes, whale watching, fishing, and play-based activities make summer education a blast!

Ocean education is a year-round endeavor, and just because schools are out of session, does not mean there are not incredible learning opportunities just around the corner.
This year's summer season saw hundreds of dolphins, brand new curriculum, and summer fun for all! Featuring new activities, ocean exploration, and maritime history, it was the over 1200 students that made summer sessions spectacular
From the teens seeking career guidance, to the little ones dipping their toes into learning, summer camp at Ocean Institute has wonder to share with every child.

This was our first time enrolling our son in a summer camp, and we couldn’t have picked a better one The staff made him feel welcome, safe, and included from day one. He loved the boat ride and touch tanks, and hasn’t stopped talking about the dolphins he saw!"
Jason K. (Laguna Niguel)
"As a parent, I value experiences that combine fun with learning, and Ocean Institute’s summer camp delivered both My kids not only had an incredible time, they came home with a deeper respect for our oceans and environment
We’ll definitely be back next year!"
Priya D. (Mission Viejo)
"My daughter came home every day bursting with excitement about what she had learned, from dissecting squid to exploring tide pools. She now says she wants to be a marine biologist! I’m so grateful for the Ocean Institute’s camp staff for fostering that passion in such a fun way."
Sarah M. (San Juan Capistrano)

This year, Ocean Institute’s community programs brought marine science to life for learners of all ages. From Tiny Tots, where little ones built curiosity through playful, hands-on encounters, to Sharks After Dark, which invited families to explore ocean science after hours, each experience inspired discovery. New offerings like Guided Snorkel Tours immersed visitors in local kelp forests, while Tidepool Hikes revealed the hidden life of the intertidal zone. Through teen programs like Girls in Ocean Science (GIOS) and Stoked on Science, students connected directly with scientists and STEM leaders, gaining mentorship and insight into ocean careers Together, these programs deepened understanding, curiosity, and connection to our ocean world
