tudents planning on starting College for the first time in the Fall can start strong by brushing up their writing, math, or reading skills this summer. •
Developmental writing faculty, Kahea (Kai) Gaspar will be teaching Introduction to College Writing on Tues, Wed, and Thurs nights.
• Students wanting to study a biological science field (like pre-Med/pre-Vet, Fish and Wildlife, Ecology, Animal Science, Agriculture, etc) need to take the year-long Biology sequence for Science Majors that starts in the Fall. In order to start the sequence, students must take (or test out of) CH 151, Preparatory Chemistry. This course also prepares students to take the yearlong Chemistry sequence for Science Majors.

Education faculty and advisor, Theresa Harper will be teaching College Reading online.
• Science Faculty, Dr. Grant Mitman will be teaching CH 151 on TWR morning this summer. Dr. Mitman is also teaching CH 151 in the Spring.

Math Faculty, Jennifer Flemming will be teaching Introduction to Algebra Parts I and II. Jennifer was part of a team of faculty (that included Murray Tillson and Alison Williams) who worked on redesigning the developmental math sequence last summer at OCCC. Now, a student can essentially take two courses simultaneously (MTH 60 Introduction to Algebra Part I and MTH 65 Introduction to Algebra Part 2). Sound scary? Jennifer doesn’t think so. Students who started the new course (called MTH 66) this winter are doing well. This cuts down on the time it takes students to complete the Math sequence and saves money. Classes are scheduled M, T, W and R mornings so students can work on Math in the morning and be at work before noon.

Summer term is built to fit around your work (and recreation) schedule.
Math Faculty, Alison Williams will be teaching MTH 95 Intermediate Algebra online. This courses prepares students to take College level math courses in the Fall. Very often, math prevents students from completing college. At OCCC, our kind and dedicated professionals work with students to identify the correct math course to start with, and then help students complete required math courses early in their college experience. For students not pursuing careers that require high skills in mathematics, the college offers MTH 105, Math in Society. MTH 105 has the highest completion rate of any math course offered at OCCC and is offered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Successful completion of MTH 95 (or MTH 98 offered in the Spring) is required to take MTH 105. Students wanting to study Nursing must take the yearlong Anatomy and Physiology Sequence that starts in the Fall. In order to start the sequence, students must take Biology 112, Cell Biology Biology Faculty, Matt Fisher, is teaching Biology 112 on TWR mornings this summer (and in the evening in the spring)

• Students wanting to study Engineering (and a number of related STEM fields like math, geology, chemistry, physics, etc.) need to take the year-long calculus-based Physics sequence. In order to start the sequence, students must complete MTH 252, Calculus II (Integral Calculus). This course also prepares students for Calculus III (Vector Calculus) offered in the Fall. Math Faculty, Alison Williams, is teaching MTH 252 on TWR (Tues., Wed., & Thurs.) evenings this summer. •
Students wanting to study STEM fields will usually need to take at least one term of Calculus. MTH 251, Calculus I will be offered at OCCC in Winter 2022. In order to start MTH 251 in the Winter, students will need to take MTH 112 Trigonometry in Fall 2021. And in order to take MTH 112 Trigonometry in the Fall, students will need to take MTH 111 (College Algebra) in Spring 2021 or Summer 2021. Math Faculty, Jingyi You, will be teaching MTH 111 online in the Spring and Summer.
Students wanting to complete General Education requirements for their degree, and perhaps take a lighter load in the Fall can take classes in the summer of 2021. •
