he search for an upmarket restaurant where one can indulge in fresh seafood has come to an end with the opening of Cape Town Fish Market at Thornhill Shopping Centre on Thursday evening. Guests were treated to delicious seafood and sushi during a private function hosted by the owner, Mr Charles Stopforth and his wife, Amanda. They were accompanied by their children Dominique, Michael and Andrew. “Two years ago we decided to buy a Cape Town Fish Market franchise in partnership with friends but unfortunately the plans did not become reality. Now after we have decided to sell our game farm we were able to become the proud owners of this unique franchise,” Charles said. Asked why they decided on Cape Town Fish Market, they were in agreement about the answer: “It is crisp, fresh and upmarket and that is exactly what Polokwane needs. We are both seafood lovers and would like to offer only the best seafood combined with excellent customer service to the community.” They added that they only receive the best support from head office with top marketing material and ideas communicated through to them to keep the brand the preferred choice among seafood lovers. They already have plans to connect with other businesses at the Thornhill Shopping Centre to offer more value for money for visitors to the centre. “But for now we need to take one step at a time by focussing on the product and customer service. Our main focus remains our product with professional service. Most key personnel were trained in Cape Town,” Charles said. Regarding the opening evening they agreed that it has been a huge success and many compliments were already received on the first
trading night. Even though the opening was by invitation only, they did not show eager paying customers away. “We are proud of the team who handled the event professionally. At times it was hectic but the food was served to perfection.” The menu offers a wonderful combination of both South African and Japanese dishes. There are the old favourite fish and chips, the chic fresh oysters, the salmon and prawn salad, the delectable salmon teriyaki and the classic seafood curry. The seafood platters come highly recommended. For those who aren’t that partial to seafood, there is also a choice of meat and poultry as well as a number of vegetarian dishes. Children are also catered for. The sushi bar is a firm favourite among sushi lovers with the conveyor belt of tasty treats that will leave you hooked. Cape Town Fish Market is a vibrant restaurant, fish market, teppanyaki and sushi bar in one with chic yet informal surroundings which brings a feast of delicious flavours to its customers. The décor places strong emphasis on Cape Town’s picturesque landscape and captures the soul of bygone days in various fishing harbours. This is done through the use of historical photographs, obtained from various Cape Town museums. The passion, pain and humility of the fishing community in their quest to not only get the best catch but to ensure a fair price for their labours is clearly evoked. This, juxtaposed with the use of stainless steel throughout the restaurant, emphasises the restaurant’s clean lines and further compliments the furniture and finishes. Cape Town Fish Market trades from 09:00 to 23:00 daily. The Stopforths expressed their gratitude to every guest and customer who support them as well as their dedicated staff for their loyalty and hard work.
Ms Amanda Stopforth’s parents, Mr Frans and Lena Malan and her grandmother, Ms Anna Lock were present to support their daughter and her husband in their new venture.
Mr Charles Stopforth, owner of Cape Town Fish market, was fortunate to also have his mother, Ms Marthie Stopforth, brother Pieter and sister-in-law, Charmaine as VIP guests at the opening.
