DOUBLE CAVE MAPS OF TURKEY Ali Yamaç OBRUK Cave Research Group; Acikhava Apt. 16/7, Nisantasi, Istanbul, Turkey, ayamac@gmail.com There can be several reasonable causes for mappng a cave for a second tme: Ether there are new galleres that are explored and the announcement of those exploratons are made wth a new map, or the former map of a cave s so erroneous that t became essental to make a new survey. On the other hand, there can be a less reasonable, even a tragcomc thrd reason for mappng a cave for a second tme: Explorng the same cave wthout beng aware of the fact that t was actually explored and mapped before and, on the top of t, mappng t agan! In Turkey, many double cave maps are drawn n years for all three causes mentoned above. In ths poster; although the double maps drawn for the frst two causes are presented, the man weght s gven to the dfferent maps of the same caves that are drawn wthout beng aware of each other for many years. It s an nterestng fact that; of all the caves, Tnaztepe, Yarımburgaz and Golcuk are re-explored and re-mapped not just twce, but for four tmes. You thnk you may recall ths poster from some other natonal and nternatonal congress' organzed over the years but, as the “plenty lttle nattentons of cavers” contnues snce, n every poster we are presentng some new and dfferent examples. 23 double map samples from a collecton of 48 exhbted n ths poster presentaton and also, n order not to make such funny mstakes, the benefts of TAY Cave Inventory of Turkey (www.tayproject.org) s clearly obvous.

Four dfferent plans of Tınaztepe Cave. No comment! Ok, there was a huge gallery whch Kaufmann mssed but what s the explanaton of dfferences n the shape of man chamber? Somethng s terrbly wrong wth G. Schmtt's map at the rght sde. Wth same scale and drecton, hs map s completely dfferent from Geospleos map Gökgöl s 3350 m. So, congratulatons to both Trent Polytechnc and MTA Dongel Cave; MTA 2008 on the left and our map on the rght. Possbly they sad "Oppss! We had mssed the gallery on the left".

Same cave, dfferent names. MAD 1995 map on the left, BUMAK 2009 map on the rght. Lengths are 58 m and 101 m DEUMAK on the left, BUMAK on rght. Nothng to say. Just compare the "D"s whch s depth, can you beleve?

Swndon's map on the left s 10 years later than MAD's map. Northeast gallery suddenly becomes much longer.

It s a long and dffcult to survey cave but, anyhow, ths can't be the fnal output and beleve me, ther scales are same

Left MTA, rght MAD. Nothng s same, drectons, dmensons, even the profles are dfferent

MTA 1993 map on the left and Trent Polytechnc 1978 map on the rght. Apart from some mnor dfferences n two man chambers, mostly correct surveys.

If you compare Ramond 1971 wth MTA 1980, not only the drecton but also all the detals are wrong

Golcuk Snkhole, near to man road, easy to access. so everybody surveyed. Not only the profles, but also the total depths are dfferent.

Names are dfferent but you must beleve that they are the maps of same cave. Left BUMAK, rght MTA

Not easy to realze but, there are four dfferent maps of Fasıh Snkhole. Not only the plans but ther profles are dfferent.

Karakovuk; left MAD 2018, rght MTA 1984 maps. A very dffcult cave wth a length of 6630 m and two wonderful maps, MTA and Trent Polytechnc

Dfferent names, same cave, top MTA, below BUMAK. So many errors n such a small and traverse cave.

Left Değrmenc 1989, rght Bakalowcz 1968. Not bad for those sngle handed surveyors

Kocan; on the left Morett's wonderful map of 1919 whch he draw n a sngle day. At the mddle C. Chabert's 1977 map and on the rght Chabert and OBRUK map

Swndon 1992 on the left, MTA 1999 on the rght. Both lengths and depths are more or less same except the connecton of left sde gallery at the entrance.

MTA on the left and Değrmenc on the rght. Not only the maps but the lenghts and depths are also same

Yarımburgaz Cave's maps are a cave map hstory of Turkey. On the left Hovasse's 1927 map, secondly 1930 map of the same cave by Racovtea, thrd map of the same cave belongs to E. Gll and J. P. Materet. The fnal map s surveyed and drawn by BUMAK at 1985.
