In this way I found out about the two-and-a-half-thousand Munster farmers who took a wrong turn and ended up burning Rio de Janeiro, the Donegal-born gangster that even the New York Mafia feared and the Meathman who ruled New Orleans for the Spanish with an iron fist in a mailed-glove. Some of these accounts are shocking, others almost unbelievable, and a few border on the wilder dreams of the most addled Hollywood scriptwriter. But I hope that all of them are interesting and even, in some cases at least,fun. After all,what is history without the bad guys?
