Women’s History Month Project Olmsted Academy South | 2014-15
Purpose
Expose students to women of significance in the areas of music, science, mathematics, art, technology, language arts and leadership to empower them to set high goals that may have seemed unreachable.
Process
Students will research/refine/produce vignettes, skits, public announcements, performances and displays about historical female figures who’ve made significant contributions in the arts, sciences and technology, etc. * Each class will perform a service learning activity to “Make History.�
Product
Students will give a public performance of their works of art, skits, vignettes, public announcements, reports and monologues that feature significant women in history.
Integration Ideas
Woman of the Week (Starters) – Conclude by having students report what they’ve learned
Anchor Activity – Anchor activities are activities that students can begin once classwork is completed.
Class Activity – Formal activity that the teacher integrates into curriculum.
Items in place
Women Working for Change reserved January – March, KY Historical SocietyOlmsted Academy South has reserved this traveling display that highlights the work featured women have done for social justice.
Composers & Schools- Chorus students are participating with the Composers & Schools foundation which pairs school-age musicians with real, living, breathing composers who will either teach them to compose their own pieces of music or compose a piece of music for them to perform.
