This conference is worth 10 Continuing Education Credits Be sure to pick up your certificate at the end of the day To claim the 10 points on the CBMT website, list it as an umbrella grouping (theme= “Empowering Leadership�) not a conference. To claim the 10 points for your state license, you can list it as a 10 credit conference as the Oregon Association for Music Therapy is a state recognized non-profit organization. Save your certificate as your proof of attendance! We will not issue you another one. Conference Attendance Policy Only those persons registered for the conference will be allowed to participate. Registration for conference is on a first-come, first-serve basis. On-site registration for the conference will only be accepted as space allows. Conference must be attended fully by participant to be able to claim the certificate of attendance reflecting number of hours. Certificates of attendance are given to participants when they turn in their conference review format the end of the event. No proof of attendance will be given after that time. Participants may not be awarded partial credit for partial attendance. Conference Cancellation and Refund Policy Activities are planned in advance based on the number of registrants. Full refunds cannot be made. Refunds for cancellations are available by written request only and must be e-mailed to oamtvicepresident@gmail.com. 80% of fees will be refunded if the request is emailed no later than one week prior to the course, 50% if the request is emailed no later than 24 hours prior to the course. No requests will be accepted thereafter. Refunds will be processed within 45 days after the conclusion of the course. If a session is cancelled, and a replacement session is not available or acceptable, a full refund will be mailed to you. There will be a $50 charge for returned checks.

Leading the Way For OAMT, WRAMTA, & AMTA Presenter: Lillieth Grand, M S, M T-BC Description: Does serving our professional organizations serve you? YES! We'll share several ways. This presentation will cover the various positions available for members with OAMT, WRAMTA, AMTA, and on the WRAMTA Local Committee and how serving in these ways can count for continuing education points. And‌ bonus!, the WRAMTA conference is coming to Portland the spring of 2019! We have a fabulous opportunity for leadership there. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to list at least three benefits of serving the profession through volunteer positions with OAMT, WRAMTA, and/or AMTA. (IV.A.1, IV.A.4, IV.B.8, IV.B.20) 2. She is OAMT VP and WRAMTA 2019 Conference Local Committee Chair. Lillieth is a Seminar Leader for Landmark Worldwide and single mom of three.

The least you need to know about medical billing & sharing CPT codes Presenter: Brenda W allem an, M T-BC Description: K now how to talk the talk and w alk the w alk, even if you're not billing insurance, yet! We’ll go over the basics of insurance billing and the least you need to know to make sure you’re not stepping on other professionals' toes. You’ll become familiar with the documentation required, the types of registry and identification numbers you’ll need, as well as the CPT codes MTs can use. You’ll also be given a guideline for how to call the insurance company, which questions to ask, and how to get through the call without too much stress. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to identify three types of documentation necessary to request a physician's prescription/order for music therapy services (I.C.5, I.D.3, III.A.6, IV.B.7, IV.B.8). 2. Participants will: be able to identify four other types of professionals to coordinate CPT code billing with and understand the reasons why; and will understand the importance of sharing and coordinating the number of authorized visits with other professionals (I.D.3, III.A.6, IV.B.7, IV.B.8). 3. Participants will be able to identify what information they need to call the health insurance company, and which questions to ask insurance when calling for eligibility of benefits (III.A.6, IV.B.8, IV.B.10, IV.B.16). Presenter Biography: Brenda Walleman, MT-BC, Licensed has 22 years experience working with children and their families, and has been board-certified for 14 years. She owns Sound Music Therapy, in Medford, Oregon and has presented at state and national conferences.

Personality and Developing Clinical Style Presenter: Brea M urakam i, M M , M T-BC Description: Our personalities can im pact our therapeutic presence and style within music therapy sessions. This talk will explore the distinct advantages of both introverted and extroverted clinicians. Both personalities’ leadership styles will be contextualized within a clinical setting. Come for a discussion on how to incorporate both introverts’ and extroverts’ strengths and how each personality style can practice self-care.


Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will identify one strength and one area for growth of their personality type’s leadership style. (IV.A.1) Presenter Biography: Brea Murakami, MM, MT-BC is an adjunct faculty member at Pacific University. Her clinical work focuses on cognitive rehabilitation and older adults.

Music Therapy in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Presenter: Andrea Eitner, M usic Therapy I ntern Description: P reterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit ex perience a multitude of conditional stressors. These include sensory, infection, nutrition, and respiratory stressors. Having entered the world before they are ready, infants suffer from a variety of problems such as sleep apnea, malnutrition, respiratory distress syndrome, elevated heart rate, and infections. Although there are challenges with premature infants’ ability to successfully thrive throughout the world, music therapy can aid in the development of the newborns. Music therapy is a noninvasive and practical method that can benefit neonatal infants on a variety of levels. With music therapy, infants have been shown to increase their weight gain per day, lower their heart rates and respiration rates, and increase their oxygen saturations. It has also been shown to benefit the overall well being of the parents and/or caregivers. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to identify 3 different signs of overstimulation in neonate babies (I.B.4a, III.B.6) 2. Participants will identify 3 different interventions used within the neonatal intensive care unit environment (I.D.10) 3. Participants will identify 3 benefits of the use of music therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit (III.B.7) Presenter Biography: Andrea Eitner, Music Therapy Intern, graduated from Pacific University in 2017, and now works as an intern at Portland Music Therapy under the guidance of Kate Harris, MT-BC. She has started two separate NICU trainings, to be completed with clinical work. She has also completed Neurological Music Therapy training. She hopes to complete her trainings and work in a children's hospital, with a specialty in NICU MT.


Increasing Neuroplasticity After Stroke: A Neurologic Music Therapy Case Study Presenter: Jasm ine Libert, M usic Therapy I ntern Description: R ecent research in neuroscience and m usic has dem onstrated the effectiveness of Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) interventions in the rehabilitation of stroke patients. NMT interventions are evidence-based, standardized techniques that have been shown to increase neuroplasticity and growth in motor, speech, and cognitive areas of the brain. This presentation will discuss the application and outcomes of NMT interventions such as Musical Neglect Training (MNT), Oral Motor and Respiratory Exercises (OMREX), and Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT) in the treatment of a stroke patient. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will identify assessment tools for use with stroke patients. (I.B.8,10) 2. Participants will understand the value of Neurologic Music Therapy interventions in the rehabilitation of stroke patients (I.D.10) Presenter Biography: Jasmine Libert is currently an intern at Portland Music Therapy under the guidance of Kate Harris, MT-BC. She took the neurologic music therapy training in June 2017 and is working to incorporate these techniques into her internship site, which specializes in neurological disorders including autism and dementia.

A review of attachment theory and internal working models as relevant to music therapy Presenter: R ichard M . Stubbs, M T-BC, QMHP, LPC Intern Description: A brief review of attachm ent theory and attachm ent -focused music therapy literature is presented with respect to the influence of music on a child’s internal working models of their caregiver during hospitalization for a lifethreatening illness. The role of music in attachment is described in language common to attachment researchers outside the field of music therapy in an effort to unify terminology between therapeutic disciplines. Two possible pathways are proposed by which the child-caregiver attachment relationship can be a focus of a music therapy session when working with children hospitalized with life-threatening illness. Case vignettes provide examples of these proposed pathways.


Learning Objectives:

1. Identify basics of attachment theory and Internal working models 2. Understand Attachment Relationship through assessment (I.B.1,2, 3b, 3c, 3f, 3h, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e, 4h, 4i, 4j, 4k, & 12) 3. Identify and plan path to attachment repair through either of two proposed pathways ( I.D.1, 2 a-c, 4, & 5) 4. Identify and utilize different ways to create interventions for either of the proposed pathways (II.A.1a-h, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2e, 2g, 2y, & 2ba) Presenter Biography: Richard M. Stubbs, MT-BC, QMHP, LPC intern Works as a music therapist and professional counselor at Care and Counseling Center of Southern Oregon. He specializes in the treatment of adolescents with a history of trauma, suicidal ideation, anxiety, and depression. He also works with adults and families.

Sharpen Your Listening Skills Presenter: Anne Vitort, M BA, M T-BC Description: Deep-level listening is a critical component in Music Therapy, However, many of us fail to listen well. This workshop will explore effective listening skills and their importance in the therapeutic process. Participants will learn how to improve their listening skills not only for clinical work, but also for strengthening interpersonal skills and leadership when working with colleagues and other professionals and in advocating for our profession. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will learn why good listening skills are critical to the therapeutic process. (II.A.1.a, & b) 2. Participants will understand the whys of their personal responses and reactions (II.A.1.d, & f) 3. Participants will practice effective listening skills and learn to apply them to clinical work (II.A.5.h, & r) 4. Participants will explore the importance of good listening skills in leadership Presenter Biography: Anne Vitort, MBA, MT-BC is the owner of UpBeat Music Therapy Services providing contracted Music Therapy and Art Therapy for clients in Adult Family Homes, Hospital, Assisted Living, Memory Care settings and 1:1. Anne advocates for MT through public speaking and guest lecturing.
