Idea?

We often add programs based on interest from our community. If you have an idea for a program that you would like to see offered or if you’d like to teach a program or workshop contact our Programs Coordinator at 250-370-9101 ext.2 or programs@oaklandsca.com

The Society for Kids at Tennis (KATS) provides free tennis lessons and equipment to families experiencing financial barriers. Using the “progressive tennis” approach recommended by Tennis Canada, the KATS program uses smaller racquets and courts, lower nets, and low compression balls. This approach helps kids to develop confidence in their ability to hit the ball, learn quickly, and most of all, have fun playing the sport! Kids will be introduced to the fundamental skills which form the foundation for future development. Please contact us for application forms. Classes subject to last minute cancellation due to rain. All About Oaklands The Oaklands Neighbourhood Located in the north-east corner of the City of Victoria, Oaklands is one of 13 neighbourhoods in Victoria. The population was approximately 6,825 in 2011 which was 8.5% of the City’s total population at the time. Oaklands is part of the ancestral territories of the Coast Salish peoples who managed the Garry Oak and camas meadows in the area. The majority of suburban development took place during the post-World War II building boom. Bowker Creek, which once supported populations of cutthroat trout, coho and chum salmon, was diverted and buried under the neighbourhood during this period. Oaklands has 14.5 acres of parkland, greenways, and boulevard gardens including two community parks (Oaklands and Hillside), two large neighbourhood parks (Oswald and David Spencer), as well as some smaller neighbourhood parks. Oaklands Elementary School, originally opened in 1913, continues to provide education to young children and serves as a resource to local community groups. The landmark Cridge Centre for the Family, BC’s oldest registered non-profit society, is also located in Oaklands. Oaklands has other heritage features including a number of residences, structures, and the Jewish Cemetery which was established in 1860 and sits atop Fernwood Hill.

about the Oaklands Community Association The Oaklands Community Association’s vision is to provide a welcoming, engaging, sustainable community where all members can live, learn, and thrive. We are proud to serve the Oaklands neighbourhood and our patrons from Greater Victoria. The Oaklands Community Association was established in 1995 by a group of committed citizens. Our first facility, the Oaklands Community Centre, opened its doors to the public in 2001. We opened our second facility in 2010, the Oaklands Neighbourhood House, which houses our Little Acorn Care Centre on Victor Street. As a major employer within the neighbourhood, Oaklands Community Association has approximately 14 full-time employees and 57 part-time as well as a number of contract instructors and over 150 volunteers. 250-370-9101 to register for programs p.32
