Our graduating Form 7 musicians take to the stage one last time in a concert dedicated to spotlighting their musical talents.

The Romance for Violin and Orchestra No. 2 in F major (adapted for piano in this version) dates from Beethoven's first period of compositional mastery which began around 1800. I have enjoyed learning and playing the piece because I like the dynamic of the piano and violin and how they interact with each other throughout the entire piece. The violin begins immediately with the romantic melody and is soon joined by the piano. Following this, there is a contrasting section with strong rhythms before the original romantic theme returns.

I will then be playing the first movement from Symphonie Espagnole composed by Lalo. This is one of Lalo’s most famous pieces and exhibits most of the composers' signature characteristics; his clever orchestration (adapted for piano in this version), bold harmonic colour and lots of dynamics and accents. I have really loved this piece and all of the different feelings and emotions it portrays. It has a darker feel while still being very grand. Lalo is French but the piece definitely has a Spanish feeling and influence. I hope you enjoy listening to these two beautiful pieces.

Lizzie is a Music Scholar in Form 5 and studies with Head of Strings, Emily Holland.
