Planning the Clovis North social took effort; however, I feel that the end-result warranted the efforts. Initially approached by Jennifer, Alex of Clovis North reached out to us, and from there everything fell into place quite well. We had a bonding event between our boards previous to this social which created connections leading to a less awkward event. Furthermore, all of the officer at Clovis North are incredibly hard-working: so, when we brainstormed the final social, their officers worked hard to make sure that everything ran well. This would not have been possible without the combined efforts of our officers, and I am very happy. HOWEVER, do not stop reading the article on that low note. To me, the advantages of virtual socials have completely outweighed any disadvantages. It is one of the few times I get to see people’s faces. They are the only times I get to interact with other club Presidents. I have talked to way more people outside of Oxford solely because of online socials. Also, they are fun! So, please join our socials guys. We work so hard.

Online socials really just don’t hit as different as in real life socials, but until this pandemic is over, it’ll be like this for a while. Anyways, our social with Clovis North High School was really fun. It was really interesting to have a social with a school that isn’t in our division because they were all relatively new faces. The board social we had beforehand really did help to break the ice because it would have definitely been awkward to interact with the Clovis North board during the social if we had just met for the first time. Moving on, the first activity we played was Kahoot and it was very entertaining to watch our members try and guess which board members were in certain photos. The second game we played was SO much fun. To be honest, I have no idea what it was called, but it was very entertaining. Basically, the game was an interactive story where members could choose what they wanted their “character” to do. It was really fun and was a great way for members to interact. On behalf of myself and probably some other board members, if you went to the social and saw some cursed pictures, let’s just pretend you didn’t. After we played games, we all worked on our cards and got the chance to socialize. Overall, I really did enjoy the social and I hope all the members that attended did as well. I hope to

For this month, we had a social that was different because it was with a club outside of our division. The people on board had a social before the actual social, so it would be less awkward and it definitely was a big help. The officers answered questions from a chart and played games, which was fun, since everyone was outgoing. For the social, it started with a KaHoot that included questions about Key Club and our officers. Then, everyone went to their breakout rooms and we played a game, where we had to save Jennifer Vo for some reason. Not going to lie, I found it extremely funny and I got a good amount of embarrassing memes of our board now, but hopefully our members found it just as hilarious as I did. We were supposed to be making cards during the game, although I got distracted and only made one, so that was sad. Then, more people came into our breakout room, so I got confused, but I think our breakout room got combined with another breakout room. I’m not completely sure, but then, it just got super awkward after that. Am I allowed to say that? Although, aren’t all online social somewhat awkward. Anyways, I hope others enjoyed the social and hopefully we can do something like this again in the future.

This past month, we had a very fun, engaging, and interesting social with Clovis North Highschool in Fresno from Division 5 North or the Corgi Division. Meeting fellow key-clubbers from another school and division really demonstrated our differences as clubs but also our blatant similarities in terms of volunteering, helping our communities, and our love for Key Club. At the beginning of the social, we started off with a Kahoot, filled with trivia on both our clubs and introductions to different officers and the LTGs of both schools. The Kahoot was a perfect icebreaker for our officers and members to meet each other and get to know each other better. The Kahoot was very enjoyable and interesting. Afterward, we were split into breakout rooms where we were able to get to know the people in our smaller groups better. In our breakout rooms, we played an interesting and unique icebreaker with a decision-making game where our choices as players affected the path we went down in a certain scenario. In my breakout room, we all participated in making choices between two options that would decide the fate of our journey, in the end, trying to save Jennifer from a witch. As a team, working together and distinguishing the better option helped us bond and understand each other. Alongside playing this game, we, also, participated in a service project where we were able to make cards for essential workers and infographics for UNICEF which we submitted after the event. The service project was also a nice component to this social, so I was able to bond with others and serve my community in the same event. We were also able to discuss our favorite Key Club memories and played a quick round of Two Truths and a Lie after finishing the first game. Through Two Truths and a Lie, I learned more about the Key Clubbers in my breakout rooms and bonded with them. Overall, this social was very fun and insightful in meeting other Key Clubbers. I enjoyed my time and made many friends through this social. This social was time well-spent, meeting new people, and bonding with them. I hope we continue meeting new people through Key Club and have socials just as engaging as this one in the future!

Oh boy, was this one of the most riveting bonding experiences that could possibly occur virtually. Clovis North Key Club truly has some exquisite leadership, and we were fortunate enough to get to meet them personally for over an hour. The board bonding had a different atmosphere than the social because we were purely focused on getting to know each other, rather than playing activities or doing service projects. The presidents and vice presidents of both clubs reluctantly agreed to have limited direction during this meeting, and it turned out to be wonderful as the breakout groups could simply converse about whatever they wanted. I would do anything to be able to consistently hold events as entertaining as that one. Alas, just as incredible our encounter was, once the social was over with, we parted on our own ways. If any Clovis North member reads this (Lana) and notices all the officers that wrote about the social, you earned that place in our memory.

We have seen a lot of socials in Key Club so far just in this term alone. There were some division socials, some joint division socials, and even some joint school socials within our division, all held online over virtual Zoom meetings. If you know me, then you know that I always enjoy a good social where everyone gets to hang out and have fun while doing some cool activities. It’s chill, it’s friendly, and it takes away the boredom of sitting at home all day. When I got the memo that our club was doing a social with some school called Clovis North, I immediately knew it was going to be interesting. Oxford Academy holding a Key Club social with Clovis North, a school that’s located all the way in Fresno and is part of a division with Corgis as their mascot? Sign me up already! It was great to see how their Key Club operated in comparison to ours, and I was also surprised at how cool and awesome their board officers were. The social itself was a blast as well. I was pretty amazed at how they came up with such a great and unique icebreaker, where we went through a hilarious Choose Your Own Adventure type of story involving all of the board officers from both clubs. I have the utmost respect for Clovis North and their officers, as I could only imagine just how much effort and time went into creating that one icebreaker, not to mention the entire social.

This month, OAKC had our first Interclub Social with Clovis North, from the D05N Corgis! It was super fun to meet everybody from Clovis North, especially because I’ve never met them before. Since we usually have socials with schools from our own division, D30S, it was a fresh new experience! Plus, the people from CN are so kind, fun, and so easy to talk to, which made the social so much more fun! :) All the attendees were split up into different breakout rooms, so that we could all bond with each other more. We participated in a really fun activity, created by CN and OA officers! Our goal was to save Jennifer from a witch in a haunted house, and we encountered a bunch of officers throughout the activity too. :’) There were a bunch of hilarious memes and my group was able to bond over them a lot. After the activity, we had time to do a little icebreaker as well! My group played two truths and a lie. I was able to learn a lot about my group and made some new friends too. :) Overall, this social was a great break from my stressful schoolwork and I hope we have a similar social in the near future!

My overall experience at the Clovis North X Oxford Academy Social was that it was very fun. Many officers in both Oxford Academy and Clovis North Key Club Board worked really hard in order to create activities. They put in a lot of work to make creative activities as well as a service project. If you missed it, make sure to attend our next socials because they are really fun to attend! At the social, we first started with a Kahoot hosted by our vice president Kenny Le. The Kahoot activity was pretty fun because we were able to be quizzed on the knowledge we have about Key Club International, as well as finishing song lyrics and guessing who the officer was based on a part of an image. It was really fun, and the organizers were able to adapt to a shortage of time. Our second activity was very interesting and entertaining. We played an interactive game where we could choose 2 different paths with different outcomes. There was a huge story/scenario, and the paths and decisions that we had to make were very funny and hilarious, especially ones that including funny videos and images of our board officers. My breakout room failed in many of our decisions, but we won in the end. Our final activity was a service project that everyone worked on throughout the social. We had the choice to either create infographics about UNICEF or cards for essential workers. It was great to be able to participate in both a service project as well as a social activity. Overall, I think that this event was really fun because I was able to meet new people from all the way in Fresno! The pandemic has allowed us to be able to meet these new people online, and I don’t think it would have happened without our situation right now. It was great to see so many new members attending the social, but I hope more of you attend our socials to meet new people and play fun activities!!!
