We believe that laughing matters, so we’ve curated a programme full of hilarious comedians that will make you do just that. Enjoy reading through the following pages, discovering new comedians and recognising some faces that you may already love. A huge thanks to the team at Flick Electric Co. for coming on board as our major sponsor this year and supporting comedy in New Zealand. With their backing, we’re looking forward to bringing you an exceptional Festival, featuring a diverse range of local and international performers. And there’s a groundswell of emerging talent in Wellington that we’re excited to introduce you to as well. Alongside the Festival, we’re also proud of the development work the New Zealand Comedy Trust undertakes year round, with initiatives supporting professional & creative development for comedians, bringing audiences new and exciting forms of comedy, and presenting critically acclaimed shows. We love that the Festival is a chance to see comedy like you’ve never seen it before, and we really encourage you to grab the opportunity to see comedians craft a one-hour show, as well as enjoying a tasty sample at our showcase events.
MESSAGE FROM THE
MAYOR OF WELLINGTON The 2016 New Zealand Comedy Festival powered by Flick Electric Co. will make you chortle, giggle, belly laugh and cackle with your mouth wide open. Laughter can lower blood pressure, reduce stress and release endorphins: it’s good for your health! This is the 24th year of the Festival, with over 80 local and international shows lined up to delight Wellington audiences. It’s great to see an increase in the number of female comedians performing this year. The mix of stand-up, sketch, improv and musical comedy is guaranteed to tickle funny bones, and will go down particularly well with a Wellington craft beer and a bite of something delicious at any of the capital’s atmospheric eateries. Kia pai to wā i te hui taurima kia kaha te kata – Enjoy the festival and laugh out loud!
CELIA WADE-BROWN Mayor OF Wellington City
This year we have 150 performers, in over 80 shows, at 12 venues across Wellington. Book early and make a night of it at the Comedy Fest. Take in a couple of shows over an evening and grab a bite at some of the delicious local restaurant & bars. I’d like to thank our wonderful family of sponsors, funders, producers, suppliers and venues for their generous support, along with our immensely talented and hard-working Festival team. A massive thank you to the comedians – whose talent, passion and creativity continually inspires us, and makes this Festival fantastic fun.
The New Zealand Comedy Trust was established as a charitable trust to champion the art of laughter. It is responsible for the annual Comedy Festival and works to foster the growth of comedy as a performing art in New Zealand. The Trust aims to provide a platform for New Zealand comedy in all its forms, as well as showcasing the best of international comedy to New Zealand audiences. ANYA TATE-MANNING
ONE HoUR OF STAND-UP COMEDY
THREE'S A CROWD
A celebration of one of the galaxies most under-appreciated heroes. A Rebel, an Admiral, a prisoner of war, and Mon Calamari. Finally Gial "Mad-Dog" Ackbar gets to swing from the chandelier in this tell-all special.
No gimmicks, no tricks, no jokes shoe-horned in to fit a theme. Adam Wright is back in 2016 with a show that does what it says on the tin. An hour of sharp, observational stand-up comedy.
A hilarious collection of solo works from a trio of recent Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School graduates.
At a time when we celebrate our ancestors' wars, who will celebrate Ackbar? He will. He will celebrate. But retirement hasn't been going well for Gial. Turns out – it's a trap. A sad and lonely whiskey trap.
In a world where everything is overblown, overpromised and over-hyped, this show will be of decent quality. Enjoy one of Wellington's most adept comedians over 60 respectable minutes. This will be one of the warmest tickets in town, with your above average host.
But he's still a really good dancer.

Kalyani Nagarajan will charm you with her transformative performance as the tragic clown Hu Duk Wan, who improvises with the audience for a unique show each night. Come and see the three choicest student comedians drama school has to offer.

Take a ride on the observational freight-train that is life inside the brain of Brine; she's got a real ‘Beautiful Mind’ vibe going on – except instead of math, there’s just a lot of really elaborate ideas. Going hundy from the minute she walks in the room, with a legit ridiculous approach to logic, Brine leaves you laughing at things you didn’t know you could laugh at. She delivers stories that have absolutely no chill. Alice Brine has a magic way of being relatable in the most unexpected ways.

2015 favourite Rich Wilson is back to host the show featuring fellow Brits Jimmy McGhie (“Tediously handsome!” – Fest Mag) and Angela Barnes (“extremely funny comic” – The Guardian, UK) plus Canadian / Filipino stand-up hero, Ron Josol.
Since becoming a father, I'm truly happy for the first time ever, but that doesn't mean I've stopped disliking a lot of stuff. Can we not just have fun 24/7?
At 30 years old, Daniel John Smith has decided not to have children. With reasons ranging from the state of the world (not great), to his own perceived shortcomings as a father (many), he will present observations of children and memories of his own youth and parents in an attempt to convince you (and himself) that this choice is the right one.
A fresh late night show is coming to Wellington for the first time this Festival! Hosted by Joseph Moore, Dope Joke Party defies God by combining live comedy, live music, airhorns, high fives, international guests, beats, less-international guests and all sorts of unscripted surprises, to create the most obnoxiously loud comedy show imaginable.
Winner – Best Comedian 2015, Wellington Comedy Awards
Critics are predicting this will be the first NZ International Comedy Festival show to win a Grammy and an MTV VMA and maybe even a Vodafone NZ Music Award if we're lucky.

“Brilliantly funny” Sarah Millican
The Scotsman
It seems we always have to be serious; knuckle down and do some serious work, seriously. Well, I'm sick of that. Let's just enjoy each other's company. Enjoy the moment. Enjoy each other's musk. Life is meant to be fun. So sit back and take a sniff. Dan mixes deadpan with physical comedy in this stand-up show exploring ways to be entertained in everyday life. Let him Shentotain you. " He's got a great eye for a setup – at one point, we actually coo with delight" – Theatreview

ALL DAY BREAKFAST
DISNEY PRINCE REIMAGINED AS A COMEDY LEGEND!
WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOILET?
Wake up, it's breakfast time! Yes at 7pm. It's an All Day Breakfast brought to you by "good eggs" Eamonn and Jonny.
Eli Matthewson has spent hundreds of hours researching everything on the internet… when he should definitely have been working on something else.
Last year they both did heartfelt critically-acclaimed serious comedy shows about love, identity and mental health, but this year they're presenting a smorgasbord of jokes about sausages, hash browns and pancakes.
But now he's making all that procrastination count in a brand new solo sketch show that celebrates the best, worst and scariest that the internet has to offer.
Coming to Wellington for one night only, Felicity delves deep, and funny, into her depression, anxiety, and her longest running relationship: with the toilet. As seen on The John Bishop Show, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled and Russell Howard’s Good News.
BYO breakfast foods.
Could the greatest invention of our lifetime be the worst thing that's ever happened to us? Get off Buzzfeed and buy a ticket to this show to find out.

NOT YOUR MUM'S TUPPERWARE PARTY
HoSTED BY RHYS DARBY
IS HE EVEN REAL?
Want a great night? Don’t waste time at your mum’s Tupperware Party. Come to our show – we’ll create the party, with our energetic, playful and hilarious quirky stand-up.
Hosted by Rhys Darby and featuring a high-voltage line-up including French flâneur Marcel Lucont, TV3’s 7 Days stars Urzila Carlson and Ben Hurley, our favourite American cowboy Wilson Dixon, Best International Show winner James Acaster from the UK, wickedly dry Welshman Lloyd Langford & many more.
Famous for his hilarious musical parodies, Gish has been missing from the Festival for the last three years, but fret not, Gish has been found! Apparently he was merely stuck in a time loop travelling through a space-time continuum. And he’s brought a mate back with him, The Mincer of Mangamuka.
This will be an unforgettable night of fast-paced comedy, showcasing the stellar array of comedians at this year’s Fest over the next three weeks.
Together they’ll take the piss out of your favourite old school classics and throw in some original tunes for the bro’s.
FINN ROY & MOLLY SOKHOM
Strikingly different, Molly’s enthusiasm and excitability would make her the perfect contestant on The Price Is Right; whilst Finn’s dry style comes from spending his days under fluorescent office lighting starring at a screen. Like Diet Coke and Mentos, when we’re combined, it’s a creative explosion! Each show you could win a meat pack (or chickpeas if that’s your thing).

GUY MoNTGOMERRY CHRISTMAS!
STARTED FROM THE TOP
For the 9th year, an all-star line-up of multi-award winning comedians from NZ will take to the stage to benefit others. The talented Jeremy Elwood, will be joined by Urzila Carlson, Ben Hurley, James Nokise and more, a show not to be missed!
Who said Christmas doesn't happen in April? Everyone? Well it looks like everyone could use a helping of Christmas cheer… and chairs. Chairs will be provided, we're not savages.
Guy Williams is a privileged white man and life is working out bloody great. This show aims to address gender and racial privilege in New Zealand in 2016. The key word is "aims", no refunds. That was a joke. I probably would give you a refund if you really wanted it.

FELICITY WARD As seen on the BBC’s John Bishop Show and Russell Howard’s Good News
Good: Youthful, innocent and somewhat naive, Jack Ansett won the South Island Raw Competition and is a rising star on the national circuit. Scrawny, but bold. Bad: Dylan Watts’ dark humour will have you cringing and laughing. Often dry, he rips apart modern society without any care for niceties or political correctness. Unemployed: A veteran of 18+ years, Justin White is a ferociously witty, intelligent and jobless storyteller, who will shock, appall and entertain you.

THE MOA SHOW
THREE NIGHT STAND
Jamie brings us the final installment in an unintentional trilogy of shows. First came tragedy and crisis. Then resolution. Now there are just questions. Brilliantly baffling questions.
When you wake up with a headache and your bed is made of leaves – it's time to cut back on the drink. When a guitar-playing hermit offers you drugs – it might be time to reassess your life.
Winner of the NZCG "Best Live Show" 2014 & 2015 and also with consecutive nominations for the prestigious Fred Award in 2014 & 2015, Jamie is in top comedic form.
When you fail your job interview with a racist spotted Kiwi – it's time to seek help from the Moa.
Known for his hilarious insight and social commentary, Jeremy (TV3's 7 Days, Comedy Gala, AotearoHA) delivers a night of brilliant comedy. Drawing on his experience of more than 15 years as a comic, this is a showcase of one of New Zealand's best stand-ups.

A GUIDE TO LEAVINg THE HOUSE, CAUSE YOU HAVE TO
SO... I'M A DAD!
LOOK AT ME
Joel Hansby has been described as an introverted extrovert, or a sanguine with a social disorder. After just recently leaving the house, he's found that life is a bit different to what he thought so decided to not leave again.
The beloved bad-boy of New Zealand comedy, Joseph Moore, has finally done the unthinkable: settled down and become a Dad! That's right! Out with the partying and the babes and the denim jackets, in with the prams and the whatever else a Dad might have! It's a recipe for Dad-tastrophe! Don't miss this "Dad-to-the-bone" hour of confessions, tips, and a few "war stories" from the "front line" (of being a Dad).
Is who we are who we appear to be? Award-winning performer Juliette Burton's been fat, thin and everything in between. Now, she'll change even more! From dressing sexily to wearing the hijab, being male, obese, old and nude: can changing our outsides change who we are inside? As seen on This Morning (UK).

FINALLY DEAD
CHAPSTICK
2degrees Perks.
Something interesting must happen every 10 seconds... and it will as America's dangerous, seductive Comedy-Monster unleashes his critically acclaimed, 5-star juggernaut.
Rose's favourite things are death, event management and attention. That's why she's decided to stage her own funeral and she's inviting YOU to partake in the misery!
CHAPSTICK (the fantastic slap-stick rap bitch) is coming to BATS to spit jokes and rhyme slick for a bit.
Prepare yourself for a roller-coaster ride of raw conversation, traps, rewards and catch-22's. Anything can happen in this interactive show.
With 2degrees Perks we’ve teamed up with the best brands so you can get exclusive access to the hottest events, special experiences, competitions and offers.
"Very, very funny" – New York Times
After an extended and sold-out season in 2015, Rose is bringing her awardwinning show back from the dead for its Wellington debut. You'll laugh, you'll cry and hopefully you'll dance because Rose is putting the fun back into funeral!
Straight out of Playshop, Definitely Not Witches and Stage of One's Own, Rosie Cann is the new kid on the block of Wellington comedy, nominated last year for Best Newcomer on the Wellington Scene. If you like hip-hop, equality, and puns, get amongst.
As seen on TV3's Funny Girls and Jono and Ben.
CHAPSTICK takes no shit, gives no hate, is a feminist, and gets no dates. Boosh.

What do you do when you couldn't care less but people keep expecting you to? Build a self-help empire, of course.
PlayShop is back to transform attitudes, lives and all of Wellington through the power of laughter. SED Speeches is the spontaneous, hilarious reimagining of one of the world's most respected global conferences, mixing your suggestions with visual presentations to create instant inspiration. This show sold out at New Zealand Improv Fest – don't miss this opportunity to learn, laugh and lose your shit.
The power of laughter is strong… especially within our kids. Bring your own little heroes along to this action-packed live comedy show and let them unleash their mighty giggles in this fun-filled event.
SARAN & ANYA
SED SPEECHES
Anya Rzhevitskaya and Saran Goldie-Anderson have plenty of terrible ideas and none of the answers, but since people just won't stop asking, they're ready to solve anything you like – for a price. Dark, clever stand-up comedy with a deceptively sweet musical chaser, this is what happens when the agony aunt is done with your shit, and that shoulder to cry on is ready to charge.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING FURNISS
OUT OF THE WHIRLWiND
Tim Batt is sick of the world's shit. So he's running for office. What office? It doesn't matter. What matters is you joining the revolution. Happiness, liberty and psychedelic drug experiences for all.
Finally, the long awaited and much anticipated "show with a pun title" from Tom Furniss!
Multi award-winning Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan is back, following his sold out tour in 2013.
You'll know him from The Rock's Morning Rumble, TV3's 7 Days, and who can possibly forget the imagery of Tom having a spa with his Gran on TV3's After Hours.
After 20 years he's still as passionate as ever about the adventure of storytelling, and he's also starting to take some very exciting risks. There are no manners on him, profound, dark, and silly too, his performance mesmerises in a way that is joyful, uplifting, inspirational and most importantly always breathtakingly funny.
