NYIBC In 2011, NYIBC celebrates twenty–seven years of providing exceptional education, training, mentoring, career advancement, performance and employment opportunities through full scholarships to nearly 500 talented young dancers from all over the world. WH AT SETS US APART

New York International Ballet Competition (NYIBC) is a three–week intensive professional training, performance and artistic education program for forty–eight talented young dancers from countries around the world, all of whom receive full scholarships. NYIBC nurtures promising dancers aged 17 to 24 from all ethnicities, regardless of their socio–economic status, pro-

viding them with an exceptional opportunity to completely focus on training to perform at their highest artistic level. The repertory is announced upon the arrival of the dancers in New York. The contemporary duet form and the classical pas de deux are the core of the repertory that NYIBC participants learn from world–renowned coaches under high standards of fairness.

HOW WE D O WHAT WE DO

The first two weeks are devoted to technique classes and the teaching and coaching of the repertory. The participants perform for the public and the illustrious panel of judges in the third week of the program. Learning classical and contemporary masterpieces from world–renowned coaches in such a short time

period, and performing them, provides the dancers with a real–life experience of what it means to work in a first–class ballet company. NYIBC provides an unparalleled professional training and artistic education these young dancers cannot find elsewhere.

WH AT WE BRING TO OU R AU DI ENCES

Audiences delight in the unique format of the performances whereby the dancers perform the same choreographic version of the ballets chosen for each progressive round. They learn to differentiate and appreciate the artistic and cultural nuances every dancer brings to each piece. Balletomanes and theatergoers alike also

experience the dancers’ personal artistry and unique qualities when they perform their solos. The international jury, comprised of leading artistic figures from different countries, awards Gold, Silver and Bronze medals accompanied by monetary prizes. In addition, the jury gives awards for special artistic achievements.

R ECORD OF EXCEL L ENCE

NYIBC is committed to excellence with a clear vision and a passion for delivering outstanding results. It attracts hiring artistic directors and choreographers who are confident that a dancer who has been mentored and trained at NYIBC can endure the rhythm of work and life in a ballet company. Since its inception in 1983, more than half the participating dancers have gone on to successful careers with leading

companies in the United States and abroad, including: American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, The Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Royal Danish Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Frankfurt Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Shanghai Ballet, Miami City Ballet, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Boston Ballet, Washington Ballet and Ballet Estable del Teatro Colón among many others.
