DESIGN HISTORY AND PARK EVOLUTION Extension of Riverside Drive to 155th Street

By 1902, the Department of Public works developed plans to to extend Riverside Drive to 155th Street. Francis Stuart Williamson employed the same concept developed by F.L. Olmsted for the park from 72nd Street to 125th Street. The Drive extension curved around topographical difficulties and was supported at critical locations by a retaining wall.
