CityServe NYC Nyack College students and staff from the Manhattan and Rockland County campuses participated in a CityServe event sponsored by the Luis Palau Association. The Palau Association’s CityServe mission is “to unite and mobilize churches, businesses, organizations, and city leaders to love and serve their city.” Nyack NYC Associate Dean of Student Life, Charles Hammond, reflected on this powerful gathering that took place in midtown. “While the UN General Assembly was meeting across town with representatives from all nations to discuss difficult and serious world issues,” he said, “another historic moment was taking place at Calvary Baptist Church on 57th Street. Only this event involved pastors and influential leaders from around the city and outside the city who are involved in kingdom building. What a great testimony of New York’s rich diversity as Dr. A.R.

Bernard, founder and senior pastor at Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, commented on the ‘oneness in Christ’ which sends a strong message to our city.” Nyack College was a participating sponsor of the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association’s CityServe event in March when some 300 students and 25 faculty/staff spent the day at ten sites in the five boroughs of New York City beautifying homeless shelters, parks, and early childhood centers. Nyack College teams converged on the boroughs via public transportation and vans that transported volunteers from Nyack’s Rockland County campus to the City for clean-up, painting, and general maintenance efforts—the gospel of love in action demonstrating compassion for the welfare of our communities.
