Africa is well known throughout the world for being cultivators of fine coffee. This Kenya AA coffee is grown at high altitudes and was roasted by Volcanica Coffee Company. My classic pour over was made without haste and served without any cream or sugar adjuncts, so as to experience the best flavor possible.
The nose is dominated by a baking cocoa aroma with hints of vanilla and spice.
The brew has a balanced approachability with mild acidity, accentuated by a pleasant bitterness and flavors of dark chocolate, nutmeg and red berry.
By the time I’d consumed half a cup, I could begin to feel a pleasant mental alertness and the caffeine working throughout my body.
A full cup had me feeling motivated and energized, but in no way jittery or anxious - a big win for someone who is generally fairly sensitive to caffeine.
The Congo Club’s herb is grown by the efficiency oriented indoor cultivator, Red Top (@_Red.Top_ ) in Sacramento. If you’ve ever grown before or know anything about landrace varietals, you know how admirable of a feat this is.
Landrace ‘sativa’ strains are notoriously lanky, vigorous and take forever to mature. They are well known for busting through greenhouse roofs and going well into November when grown full season outdoors.
Most indoor cultivators don’t even attempt to grow these strains for these very reasons.
All that aside, Red Top has done a masterful job of cultivating this rare varietal. Red Congolese (Congolese landrace sativa x Mexican landrace sativa x Pure Afghani Kush) has a unique mango-lemon-lime aroma with hints of baking spice. The flowers burn to a beautiful bright white ash and emit a smooth, light bodied smoke that tastes nearly identical to the strain’s bouquet. 31.63% THC | .33% CBD

I was excited to discover that this combination didn’t produce any undesirable side effects - a rare find when pairing caffeinated beverages and thin leaf varietals. There is a lovely congruency in the spice aspect of both the flower and the coffee, bringing it all home for this pairing that delivers on every level I was hoping for. This duo is truly a winning combo, producing amazingly clear headed and functional effects - perfect for getting my day going on the right foot.
