FRIENDS CORNER by Meghan Radomske Friends of the North Vancouver District Public Library Executive Chair This October, The Friends of the North Vancouver District Public Library had another successful book sale, raising $3660! Thanks to everyone who supported the fundraiser by volunteering, buying books, and, spreading the word. Your contribution helped to support next year’s Summer Reading Club, the Halloween Trick is to Read program, and our “Excite Your Library Experience” fundraising campaign, which will fund the creation of an improved lobby and reading lounge at Lynn Valley Main Library. The Friends were also delighted to support accessibility improvements at all three branches by applying for and receiving a $73,353 grant from the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund. This grant allowed the Library to buy automatic door openers for the washrooms, an accessible self-checkout station, magnification viewers, large computer monitors for select computers, and mp3 players, cassette players, and Kindle eReaders for library patrons with disabilities. We hope you were able to join us at our Celebrate Accessibility @ Your Library Event on October 26. Please join us on Saturday, November 12 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the District Library Gallery on the 2nd floor of Lynn Valley Main Library for an art reception featuring artist Anne Gaze. This is a chance to chat with the artist, enjoy beautiful art, mingle with community members, and enjoy some free refreshments. The Friends are looking for new executive members, including a new Chair. Becoming an executive member is your chance to give back to your community, guide the future directions of the Friends, and build on the past successes. For more information about the Friends, visit www.nvdpl.ca/ about/friends , or contact friendsnvdpl@gmail.com. Or, pick up a brochure from your local branch.
