BEST OF 2011 Welcome to the annual poll of NUVO readers we call the Best of Indy. As we have for more than 20 years, we set about asking all of you to vote for your favorites in the locals arts, entertainment, media, music, nightlife, food, drink and shopping. Admittedly, that’s a whole lot of questions. But we got a whole lot of answers. More than 15,000 men, women, children and, perhaps, pets with valid email addresses, cast their online votes during the month of May in more than 100 categories. Once again, we’ve continued our efforts to keep the NUVO Best of Indy contest focused on local people, places and things.While many, many, MANY votes were cast for corporate, national, international and/or chain businesses—we didn’t count them. As we stated in the rules on the voting site, only votes for locals count.

This isn’t an easy rule to enforce, and we understand some people don’t like it. But our logic is simple: The Best of Indy contest and issue our devoted to shining a light on what is outstanding and unique to our city, neighborhoods and neighbors. We mean no disrespect or disparagement, we simply want to keep the focus on the Best of Indy – meaning locally owned and operated businesses and we will continue to ask you to vote for local choices only again next year.
