Never before has the role of a CFO been more complex. As strategic business partner and advisor to the CEO, today’s CFOs are required to juggle multiple portfolios: strategic leader, investor relations manager, moral conscience and risk manager. In Asia, where family firms and government organisations dominate, conducting business also presents its own unique challenges and opportunities. With this dynamic environment in mind, NUS Business School and The University of Chicago Booth School of Business have assembled an interdisciplinary team of faculty from the fields of economics, finance, accounting, strategy and leadership to create the NUS–Chicago Booth Emerging CFOs for Asia Programme. Drawing upon NUS and Chicago Booth’s global expertise in finance and economics research, the programme will help senior finance executives in Asia strengthen their leadership skills, effectively manage stakeholder relations, and drive strategic direction to lead enterprise transformation. The curriculum will take into account Asia’s unique dominant shareholder environment, in contrast to diffused ownership structures in the West. The programme also includes keynotes from distinguished practitioners who will describe how they have managed strategic challenges in their organisations. Emerging CFOs for Asia is the first programme in the Asia Executive Series.

Upper-middle to senior managers in private or public sector organisations, who are currently leading or preparing for transformational change initiatives. Core members of change management teams from the same organisation are strongly encouraged to attend the programme together.

Many leaders underestimate an organisation’s resistance to change. While transformational change is easy to talk about, it is in reality, difficult to execute. One challenge is managing the different interests of internal and external stakeholders who have something to lose. Effecting lasting change also requires long-term commitment from employees across the organisation, yet too often companies find themselves losing focus and momentum after initial big bang efforts. If you already have the responsibility for, or will be tasked with transformational change initiatives, this practical programme equips you with the skills, perspectives and frameworks to lead change. In five days, you will discover strategies and tactics used by leaders in developed countries as well as in Asia to influence stakeholders, engage employees, and drive transformational change programmes. Through case studies and simulations, you will have the opportunity to test your experience and learn alongside fellow participants from different industries who are preparing for a similar journey. KEY BENEFITS Be prepared to lead, communicate and deliver transformational change Understand the change process and gain deeper perspectives on organisation dynamics Learn to influence and change organisation culture and behaviour Manage the complexity of change in a highly connected world

Have you or your organisation been presented with an acquisition or divestment opportunity? Are you preparing for potential growth or consolidation in the near future? You may be aware that mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions have a mixed track record, with many failing to deliver expected benefits, and some even leading to significant loss of value. And unless you are part of a very large organisation, you may have limited M&A experience and expertise within your leadership team.

Evaluating your business portfolio and identifying targets for acquisition or consolidation Clarifying the strategic promise of the combined or restructured entity Understanding valuation and due diligence issures Managing the deal, deal structure, contractual terms, and pre and post-deal risk allocation Making it work: 100 days and beyond WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Leaders and executives who have responsibility for, or are involved in identifying, planning and/or executing M&A, including: Senior management Business development directors M&A team members in strategic planning, finance, legal or human resources Entrepreneurs

This new programme will help you and your team members to develop a clear understanding of the underlying issues, strategic choices, and ingredients necessary for ultimate M&A success. The programme takes you through an entire M&A lifecycle, beginning from crafting a growth strategy and target screening, to performing due diligence, and finally closing a deal. You will also learn to construct a strategic roadmap that will help you overcome the hurdles of post-deal integration and enable your organisation to realise the M&A deal’s full potential. Although no prior experience in M&A is required for this programme, participants are expected to have some basic knowledge of accounting and finance – i.e. balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements. The first day of the programme is an accounting and finance refresher, which can be opted out of depending on your profile and needs.
