Our courageous change

The refresher course will help to expand knowledge and equip staff with the right skills to manage demand of care in patients with Hickman line

Staff engagement to complete the e-learning and survey questionnaires that assess benefits of online training

Our highlights and challenges

95% of those who completed the Hickman Line online training found the training package useful as a refresher

The time saved (30 minutes per staff member) can be used to provide care to patients and reduce shifts and 2 hours on e- roster (based on 24 staff) to manage staffing and support patient care

Evaluation identifies gap in current surveillance (no Hickman line infection data nationally or locally) - need to develop ways to capture information

Our ambition

Staff education and training is pivotal in improving patient safety and reducing patient harm. Virtual education enables staff to access education and undertake development activities in a safe, supportive environment during the pandemic.

Our group project or strategic vision is to revolutionise mode of delivery for staff education and training to achieve the fast impact of training via e-learning.

Conventional training requires much planning and coordination. Adapting the delivery of this training will support staff by offering greater flexibility and enhance learning experience.

Our impact on patients, staff and the Trust

The evaluation shows positive impact on patients, staff and the Trust and it also embeds the trust values, direction and foundations. The model can be replicated for other staff training and education package.
