The sportsmen will compete in a series of challenges to test their ability with the axe and saw — watch the woodchips fly as logs are chopped and sawn at a fantastic pace. This is a chance to watch some of Australia and New Zealand’s top rural sports athletes in three exciting invitational competitions — coupled with lively performances by three of New Zealand’s favourite entertainers — the Topp Twins and country music star, Tami Nielson. The Topp Twins aka identical twin sisters Lynda and Jools Topp have performed around the world as an original countrymusic comedy duo for more than 25 years and continue to delight audiences. Being an axeman was once a livelihood but nowadays it is a much contested and skilled sport. Mr Hollander said the new Trans Tasman Wood Chopping ANZAXE series launched at Queens Wharf on October 19–22 will become an annual fixture between the two countries. Two thirds of the top 20 axemen in the world hail from Australia or New Zealand. Kiwis Jason Wynyard (this year’s world champion) and David Bolstad who between them have won the World Championships for the past 15 years will lead the New Zealand team It will be a close competition against recent runners up in the world championship Australians, Brad Delosa and Laurence O’ Toole and their respective team.
